22 kW at 600 V to back up the geothermal system or heat pump of a commercial building

A boiler that serves as backup or main source

When a commercial or institutional building heats its hot water loop with a geothermal system or a heat pump, it needs reliable backup for periods of extreme cold or maintenance. Thermo 2000’s BTH ULTRA 22 plays that role, and it can also heat a business, offices or an institutional space with baseboards, radiators or radiant floors on its own.

This wall-mounted boiler delivers 22 kW, or 75,064 BTU/h, on a 600 V three-phase supply. Its six 347 V elements are grouped in two stages. It belongs to the commercial BTH ULTRA line, offered at 480 V and 600 V, which Thermo 2000 designs for new installations as well as replacements.

Controls that work with your main source

The T2 UltraSmart controller modulates output over two stages based on the loop’s demand. With the supplied outdoor sensor, it sets the water temperature on one of three curves (MIN, STD, MAX); warm weather shutdown keeps the boiler at rest during periods when the main source is enough. When the cold sets in, Boost mode is available. The controller also provides a 24 V supply for the thermostat and accessories, pump purge and presets by distribution system.

The operating range is 50 °F to 190 °F (10 °C to 90 °C). An automatic limit at 208 °F and a manual limit at 227 °F protect the unit, and the supplied 30 psi relief valve protects the loop.

Electrical and connections

At 600 V, the BTH ULTRA 22 draws 21.2 A. Thermo 2000 lists a 30 A breaker and copper or aluminum wire gauge 10. The boiler weighs 75 lb, holds 3 US gallons of water and connects with 1 1/4 in female NPT fittings; two reducers are supplied.
