36 kW on a wall: the largest BTH ULTRA size on 600 V

The top of the commercial BTH ULTRA range

In the commercial version of the BTH ULTRA, powered by 600 V three-phase, the 36 kW model is the largest size. Thermo 2000 rates it at 122,832 BTU/h, produced by six 6 kW, 347 V elements controlled in two stages. Despite that output, the boiler stays wall-mounted: 75 lb, 3 US gal of water.

It is aimed at buildings with a larger hot-water loop: a workshop or garage heated through the slab, a shop fitted with radiators, a small office building with hydronic baseboards. It serves new construction as well as replacements.

In a Quebec workshop, garage or shop

Take a mechanic’s workshop in a Laval industrial park, on 600 V three-phase power, with a heated slab under several bays. The BTH ULTRA 36 connects to a 50 A breaker; Thermo 2000 lists a current of 34.6 A and a suggested wire gauge of Cu 8 or Al 6. Because it hangs on the wall, it takes no floor space where vehicles and carts move around.

A slab needs cooler water than radiators: the 50 °F to 190 °F (10 °C to 90 °C) range leaves that room, and the T2 UltraSmart controller adjusts the water temperature with the supplied outdoor sensor, using three curves (MIN, STD and MAX). It also modulates output based on demand, stops heating in mild weather and offers a Boost mode. Finally, Thermo 2000 presents the BTH ULTRA as backup for a solar or geothermal installation.

How we install a commercial boiler

First, a free on-site estimate. We look at the 600 V panel, the piping, the emitters and, where applicable, the boiler being replaced. You then receive a written quote that specifies the boiler and the parts to plan for: circulator, expansion tank and accessories that are not among the items Thermo 2000 supplies.

During installation, we mount the boiler, connect the inlet/return and outlet/supply in 1 1/4 in NPT, install the supplied 30 psi relief valve, drain valve and temperature and pressure gauge, then make the electrical connection. Next come filling, purging, connecting the outdoor sensor and setting up the controller. Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 15 years and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years (parts).

01 · What it is for

The largest BTH ULTRA size on 600 V

At 36 kW, the BTH ULTRA 36 feeds larger hot-water loops: a workshop’s radiant slab, a shop’s radiators, an office building’s baseboards.

  • Heated slab in a garage, workshop or warehouse on 600 V power
  • Office buildings and shops heated by hot-water radiators or baseboards
  • Replacing a high-output commercial electric boiler
  • Electric backup for a solar or geothermal installation
36 kW for 34.6 AOn 600 V three-phase, full output draws 34.6 A and calls for a 50 A breaker, per Thermo 2000.
Six 6 kW elements347 V elements controlled in two stages, with output modulation based on demand.
1 1/4 in connectionsInlet/return and outlet/supply in 1 1/4 in female NPT; two reducers are supplied.

06 · Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the BTH ULTRA 36 enough for my building?

It delivers 36 kW, or 122,832 BTU/h according to Thermo 2000. To know whether that is enough, we assess the heat load during the free estimate: heated area, insulation, type of emitters.

What electrical protection is needed?

A 50 A breaker on a 600 V three-phase circuit. Thermo 2000 lists a current of 34.6 A and a suggested wire gauge of Cu 8 or Al 6.

Can it heat a garage or workshop slab?

Thermo 2000 lists radiant floors among the BTH ULTRA’s uses, and a heated slab is one. We check the target water temperature against the slab design before proposing this model.

What comes with the boiler?

A 30 psi relief valve, a drain valve, two reducers, the outdoor sensor and a temperature and pressure gauge, per Thermo 2000.

What is the manufacturer’s warranty?

Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 15 years and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years (parts), in Canada and the United States.
