Quick facts
Five tons of central air, when the house truly calls for it
The largest size in the N4A5S series
The N4A5S60AKAWA is the 5-ton (60,000 BTU/h) outdoor unit of the Arcoaire Performance N4A5S series, its largest size. It targets very large houses cooled through a single duct system: multi-storey properties, houses with extensive glazing, homes where a smaller unit is already not enough. It runs on R-410A, with a single-stage scroll compressor, and it cools only.
Before talking about 5 tons, we check that it is the right choice. An oversized air conditioner cools quickly, shuts off right away and dehumidifies poorly; the house becomes cool but clammy. During the estimate, we look at insulation, window orientation and duct capacity before confirming the size. In some very spread-out houses, two smaller systems, one per floor, give better comfort than a single unit: if that is your case, we will tell you.
The manufacturer's data for this size
Arcoaire publishes a range of 13.8 to 15 SEER2 for this size, depending on the matched indoor section; the condensing unit alone has no certified rating, and the capacity tables use the EVD4X61M24A section. Sound power is 75 dBA, or 73 dBA with sound shield.
For the electrical side, it needs a 208/230 V single-phase circuit: 33.4 A minimum ampacity and a 50 A maximum time-delay fuse or breaker. On the refrigerant side, the unit ships with 10.10 lb (4.58 kg) of R-410A, a charge set for 15 ft of piping, which our technicians then adjust to the actual length.
This condensing unit does not heat. Sold alone, it is not eligible for the LogisVert grant. For a house this size, a central heat pump that heats and cools is often worth comparing; we can present both.
What our installation includes
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work.
- Free on-site estimate and confirmation of the size;
- Written quote specifying the matched indoor section and the electrical circuit;
- Setting the outdoor unit, installing the indoor section;
- Refrigerant piping with a 7/8 in vapor valve, evacuation, charge adjustment;
- Electrical connection, commissioning and an airflow check at the registers.
The manufacturer allows up to 250 ft of equivalent piping length and 200 ft of actual length, which leaves latitude to place the unit away from a deck or a bedroom. We work in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and on the South Shore.

The 5-ton size, for houses that need it
The N4A5S60AKAWA is the 5-ton outdoor unit of the N4A5S series. It is matched with an indoor section of corresponding capacity, a coil on an electric furnace or a fan coil; the manufacturer's spec sheet builds its capacity tables with the EVD4X61M24A section.
- Very large houses cooled through a single duct system
- Replacing a 5-ton central air conditioner
- Multi-storey houses with a large-capacity electric furnace
- Remote outdoor unit, up to 200 ft of actual piping

Frequently asked questions
Does my house really need 5 tons?
That is the first thing we check. An oversized unit cools quickly but dehumidifies poorly. We assess insulation, windows and ductwork during the free estimate, then recommend the N4A5S size that fits.
What electrical circuit is needed?
A 208/230 V single-phase circuit with a 33.4 A minimum ampacity and a 50 A maximum time-delay fuse or breaker, according to the manufacturer's spec sheet. We check your panel's capacity before the quote.
What is the refrigerant charge?
The unit ships with 10.10 lb (4.58 kg) of R-410A, set for 15 ft of piping. Our technicians then adjust the charge to the actual installed length.
What SEER2 will I get?
The spec sheet publishes 13.8 to 15 SEER2 for the 5-ton size, depending on the matched indoor section. The condensing unit alone has no certified rating.
Does this air conditioner heat?
No. It cools only and, sold alone, it is not eligible for the LogisVert grant.
What warranty does the manufacturer offer?
The ICP limited warranty certificate covers parts for 10 years for the original owner with registration within 90 days of installation, otherwise 5 years; it states that this registration condition does not apply in Quebec. Subsequent owners: 5 years. Labour is not covered by the manufacturer.
