The Élios EAHxxCUL series heating element fits inside the GGHLA wall-mounted air handler and adds electric backup heat to it. It comes in four nominal outputs, 3, 5, 8 and 10 kW, all 208-230 V single-phase. Each element heats in a single stage and, according to the manufacturer’s drawing, carries its own relay and breaker.
Extra heat for the wall-mounted air handler heat pump
The GGHLA air handler mounts on the wall of a closet, a mechanical room or a basement and distributes air through ducts. When the heat pump needs extra heat, the element takes over. Élios lists it as an optional accessory in the submittal sheets for the GGHLA18, GGHLA24, GGHLA30 and GGHLA36 air handlers, and requires that a wired controller from its list or a compatible thermostat control the unit.
Which output for which air handler
- 5, 8 and 10 kW: listed for all four sizes, from 18,000 to 36,000 BTU.
- 3 kW: listed for the GGHLA18, GGHLA30 and GGHLA36, but not in the GGHLA24 sheet.
What the manufacturer’s sheet says
Actual output depends on voltage: the 10 kW gives 9.2 kW at 230 V and 7.5 kW at 208 V. The same model needs a circuit with a 53 A MCA and 60 A maximum overcurrent protection at 230 V. The values for each size are in the table that appears when you select it. The element measures 19.57 × 9.06 × 4.41 in and weighs 1.4 to 1.9 kg depending on the output.
Before installation
Check your air handler’s model number and your electrical panel’s capacity. The supply circuit is done by a master electrician, with the unit powered off.

What to know before installing
- The 3 kW kit is not listed on the GGHLA24 submittal: use 5, 8 or 10 kW for that size.
- Size the circuit from the submittal: the 10 kW kit needs 53 A MCA and 60 A max. overcurrent protection at 230 V.
- Élios requires a wired controller from its list or a compatible thermostat with this air handler.
- The supply circuit is done by a licensed electrician, with the unit powered off.

Which kit fits my GGHLA air handler?
The Élios submittals list the 5, 8 and 10 kW kits for all four sizes, 18,000 to 36,000 BTU, and the 3 kW kit for the GGHLA18, GGHLA30 and GGHLA36. We confirm the rating against your heating needs and your electrical panel.
Can I use it in a GPHLA slim ceiling unit?
No. The GPHLA uses the EAHxxDUL series. The CUL series is for GGHLA wall-mount air handlers.
Why is the output lower at 208 V?
A resistance heater puts out less at lower voltage. Per the manufacturer’s sheet, the 10 kW kit gives 9.2 kW at 230 V and 7.5 kW at 208 V.
