Designed for heating as much as for cooling

Many Quebec homeowners replace their central air conditioner with a heat pump, which also heats the house for a good part of the winter. To keep up, the indoor coil must let refrigerant flow both ways. That is the case with Arcoaire’s EHD4X30AAL: its bi-flow TXV meters refrigerant in cooling and in heating, and the manufacturer presents it for an air conditioner or a heat pump.

In summer, house air gives up its heat to the cold fins of the coil. In winter, the cycle reverses and the same coil hands the indoor air the heat captured outdoors by the outdoor unit. The electric furnace or the air handler’s element stays as backup for the coldest days.

What it is, and who it suits

The EHD4X30AAL is a horizontal cased evaporator coil, R-410A, in a 2.5-ton size (30,000 BTU/h). It connects to an air handler or an electric furnace installed on its side. It suits homes where the indoor unit sits under a basement ceiling, in a crawl space or in a narrow utility room, and contractors replacing a horizontal R-410A coil of the same capacity.

The coil is all aluminum, which Arcoaire describes as corrosion resistant. It slides out of the cabinet for cleaning, a welcome detail at the yearly maintenance visit.

How it fits your system

Horizontal airflow is bi-directional: air can pass through the coil in either direction, which lets you choose its side according to the position of the blower and the ducts. Choosing the outdoor unit remains the key step: it must run on R-410A and its capacity must suit the coil size and the home’s needs. Without that verified match, the system does not deliver the expected comfort.

We come out for a free on-site estimate, then give you a written quote. During the visit, we note the outdoor unit model, the orientation of the indoor unit, the condensate drain route and the available space; we also confirm the cabinet dimensions before ordering.

On installation day, our technicians set and connect the coil, braze the refrigerant lines, run the leak test and the evacuation, then commission the system in both modes. Availability, warranty and grant

This size is available while supplies last. Arcoaire covers it with a 10-year limited parts warranty if it is registered within 90 days of installation, 5 years otherwise. Sold alone, it is not eligible for the LogisVert grant.
