Quick facts
Add central air conditioning to your 17-1/2 in electric furnace
The Arcoaire EVD4X24M17A evaporator coil is the part that lets an electric furnace blow cool air. Installed in the ductwork, against the furnace, it receives refrigerant from the outdoor air conditioner and cools the air the blower then sends to every room. This 2-ton R-410A model comes with its insulated cabinet and a factory-installed thermostatic expansion valve. We install it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and on the South Shore.
A small size designed for homes with a single furnace
The 2-ton size targets modest homes where all the ductwork starts from one furnace: a bungalow, a townhouse, a plex unit with its own system. We always confirm the size during the estimate, based on the house and the planned air conditioner. Arcoaire built this coil on its Power-V principle: the headers are grouped at the top, and the manufacturer states that this layout delivers the same or better SEER without having to move up to a larger coil. The microchannel coil is all aluminum, a material that resists corrosion, and condensate drains into a PBT pan.
How it fits a Quebec home
In many homes here, heat comes from an electric furnace in the basement, and summer is spent with window air conditioners. This coil lets you keep the furnace and its ductwork, then add a central air conditioner. The flush fit is designed for a 17-1/2 in wide furnace: the coil cabinet lines up with the furnace cabinet, with no overhang. The coil installs vertically, upflow when the furnace blows upward, or downflow when it blows downward.
Two points to keep in mind before choosing. First, Arcoaire limits this model to air conditioning: it cannot be paired with a heat pump. If you want to heat with the outdoor unit, we will steer you toward a complete central heat pump. Second, sold alone, it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. This model is available while supplies last.
What AirGreen’s installation covers
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years. Our refrigeration, ventilation and electrical work is done under our RBQ licence 5645-9605-01. For this coil, the installation includes:
- measuring the furnace and checking the outdoor air conditioner, which must use R-410A;
- setting the coil in the plenum and sealing the duct connections;
- connecting the 3/8 in (liquid) and 3/4 in (suction) lines, followed by a leak test and evacuation;
- connecting the condensate drain;
- commissioning, including setting the blower speed within the 600 to 1,000 CFM range published by the manufacturer.
On the warranty side, Arcoaire publishes a 10-year parts limited warranty when the unit is registered on time, and 5 years if it is not registered within 90 days of installation. We give you the information needed to register.

The cooling coil for a 17-1/2 in furnace
The EVD4X24M17A sits against an electric furnace or an air handler, in the ductwork. Connected to an R-410A central air conditioner, it cools the air the blower sends through the house.
- Adding central air conditioning to a home heated by a 17-1/2 in electric furnace
- Replacing a 2-ton coil that leaks or is corroded
- Vertical installations, upflow or downflow
- Pairing with a 2-ton R-410A central air conditioner

What to know before installing
- Air conditioning only: Arcoaire states this model is designed for AC applications. It does not pair with a heat pump.
- Sold alone: not eligible for the LogisVert grant. The coil has no efficiency rating of its own; performance depends on the air conditioner and the furnace or air handler it is matched with.
- The outdoor air conditioner must use R-410A and connect with 3/8 in (liquid) and 3/4 in (suction) lines.
- The flush fit is designed for a 17-1/2 in (445 mm) wide furnace.
- Available while supplies last.

Frequently asked questions
Can this coil be paired with a heat pump?
No. Arcoaire states this model is designed for air conditioning only. If you also want to heat with the outdoor unit, a different coil is needed; we would then quote a complete central heat pump.
Does it qualify for the LogisVert grant?
No. Sold alone and limited to air conditioning, it does not qualify. Certified performance belongs to a complete matched system, not to the coil.
My furnace is not 17-1/2 in wide. What are my options?
The EVD4X series also comes in 14-3/16, 21 and 24-1/2 in widths. We measure the furnace during the estimate and pick the size that lines up.
Which air conditioner should it be paired with?
An R-410A central air conditioner of matching capacity, connected with 3/8 in and 3/4 in lines. Send us your outdoor unit’s model number and we check the match before ordering.
What warranty does the manufacturer offer?
Arcoaire publishes a 10-year parts limited warranty with timely registration, or 5 years if the unit is not registered within 90 days of installation. Where the warranty cannot depend on registration, the 10-year period applies.
