GENERAL AIRSTAGE RLXFZ 3-Zone 24,000 BTU Heat Pump: Three Upstairs Bedrooms, a Simple and Reliable R-410A Multi-Zone System for the Suburban Home, Installed by AirGreen
The GENERAL AIRSTAGE heat pump on this page is the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE system built around the AOU24RLXFZ outdoor unit, without the slightest difference: a 24,000 BTU compressor, 3 zones, and three wall-mounted heads of 7,000 + 7,000 + 7,000 BTU in the configuration shown. Fujitsu General Limited changed its name to GENERAL Inc. on January 1, 2026; AHRI certificate 6998279 is the same, as are the ENERGY STAR certification, the values published by the manufacturer and the warranty.
Three bedrooms upstairs, an open ground floor, a bathroom in between: that is the layout of a great many suburban homes. On a summer evening, the upper floor holds on to the day's heat, and one window air conditioner per bedroom means three noisy appliances, three blocked windows and three boxes to store every fall. A multi-zone system replaces all that with a single outdoor unit behind the house and three discreet heads high on the walls.
This page is about simplicity: a proven series, an R-410A refrigerant well known to every refrigeration technician, a configuration that calls for no compromise. In Laval, on the residential streets of Pont-Viau and Laval-des-Rapides, it is the kind of installation that gets done without transforming the house.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
Two names, one appliance: here is where it comes from. Fujitsu General was acquired in August 2025 by Paloma Rheem Holdings, the group that has owned Rheem since 1988, and it has been known as GENERAL Inc. since January 1, 2026. It keeps its head office and its R&D centre in Kawasaki, Japan, its factories, its AIRSTAGE line, its model numbers and its warranty program. The Fujitsu name, for its part, is gradually leaving the packaging; during that changeover, the AOU24RLXFZ outdoor unit is offered under both brands.
AirGreen keeps both pages because our customers search for one name or the other, and because it would make no sense for the same appliance to look different from one page to the next. The table below shows both columns. Rheem Canada has handled sales in Canada since February 2026, and it is still Groupe Master, our distributor, that supplies us.

Upstairs, heat rises and builds up under the roof; the bedrooms are the last rooms to cool down in the evening. Three heads, one per bedroom, deal with the heat at the source instead of trying to chase it from the ground floor. For cooling, the manufacturer's values are a SEER2 of 18.0 and an EER2 of 12.5. The first describes the average efficiency over the summer, the second the efficiency on the hottest days, when the upper floor turns into a sauna. With ratings at that level, cooling three bedrooms stays affordable.
Cooling also dries the air: up to 3.8 pints of water per hour. For children who sleep badly in a humid bedroom, the difference is felt from the very first night.
Three zones, three set points, and no more negotiations in the hallway. The parents' bedroom can stay cooler, the baby's room milder, and the guest room goes on standby as long as it is empty. Each head is adjusted separately. The Inverter compressor adjusts its speed to the sum of the three demands: when only one bedroom calls for air, it slows down instead of stopping and restarting. Behind the house, the outdoor unit runs at a published sound level of 52.0 dB(A).
On the winter side, the values published by the manufacturer give, for the AOU24RLXFZ outdoor unit, 14,100 BTU of heat at −8 °C and 11,900 BTU at −15 °C. The COP of 1.86 at −15 °C means the heat pump supplies 1.86 units of heat for each unit of electricity, when your baseboards give only one. The HSPF2 of 8.7 measures that performance over the entire winter. At −8 °C, a perfectly normal January day in Laval, the three bedrooms are heated mostly by the heat pump; at −15 °C, it is still working, and heating is guaranteed down to that limit. The model is not certified for cold climates: the upstairs baseboards stay connected for the harsher nights.
On this outdoor unit, the page's configuration uses the 3 available zones, which is the maximum the AOU24RLXFZ accepts. You still choose the capacity of each head with us, from three compatible models:
- ASU7RLF1 (7,000 BTU): the child's bedroom or the guest room, this page's reference size.
- ASU9RLF1 (9,000 BTU): the main bedroom, especially if it faces west.
- ASU12RLF1 (12,000 BTU): a main bedroom with a large closet and a desk corner, or the sunniest room upstairs.
That ceiling of 3 zones has an advantage: the system is complete from the start, with no head to add later. We check with you that the chosen combination respects what the outdoor unit accepts. For a suburban home with three upstairs bedrooms, it is often all you need; the ground floor keeps its current heating, or will get a second system if you wish.
Here is how the installation unfolds:
- The outdoor unit sits on the ground, on a raised base below the rear façade, or on a wall bracket if the lot is narrow.
- One refrigerant line per bedroom; the three lines run down the exterior wall in a single line cover, painted to match the siding.
- Each head is mounted high, preferably on the bedroom's exterior wall, where the line route is shortest.
- The condensate drains run down by gravity with the lines; since the heads are upstairs, a pump is rarely needed.
- A dedicated electrical circuit, then a commissioning by a refrigeration technician, bedroom by bedroom.
Three heads, three sets of indoor filters to rinse: you open the front of the head, slide the filter out of its slot, rinse it in lukewarm water and put it back fully dry. Once a year, a refrigeration technician does the rest: outdoor coil, drains, connections and an R-410A check. Wi-Fi, offered as an option, lets you cool the bedrooms before bedtime without climbing the stairs.
This system is ENERGY STAR certified (ID 2409935) and on Hydro-Québec's LogisVert list: according to the October 27, 2026 list, the associated grant is $705. We prepare the file with you. On top of that comes the manufacturer's warranty: 12 years on the compressor, 12 years on parts, 6 years on labour.
It suits the family that wants to cool the three upstairs bedrooms without major work, the homeowner who is tired of taking out and storing window air conditioners every season, and anyone who wants to lighten the heating bill without touching the ground floor. In each case, the principle fits in one sentence: one head per bedroom, one compressor behind the house.

Three cool bedrooms in summer, a more comfortable upper floor in winter, a single machine outside: the recipe is nothing complicated, and that is precisely what makes it reliable.
What people ask us about multi-zone systems.
Can I heat one room and cool another at the same time?
No. On a multi-zone system like this one, every head works in the same mode, heating or cooling. Each room still keeps its own set temperature.
What happens when every room calls for heat?
They share the outdoor unit’s capacity: 14,100 BTU/h at −8 °C, 11,900 at −15 °C.
How many heads can I connect?
Up to 3 on this outdoor unit. This product is configured for 3 heads.
How much is the LogisVert grant?
$705. The grant never exceeds 100 % of the cost before taxes; apply within 9 months of installation.
Is it ENERGY STAR certified?
Yes, ID 2409935.
Down to what temperature does it heat?
Down to −15 °C.
Is it noisy?
Indoors, the reference head goes down to 21 dB(A). Outdoors, 52 dB(A): we place the unit away from bedroom windows.
Why a multi-zone instead of several wall units?
One outdoor unit on the wall and one circuit. In return, the rooms share the capacity, and if the outdoor unit stops, every zone stops.
What does the warranty cover?
Our sheet lists 12 years on the compressor and 12 years on parts. AirGreen extended warranty: possible.
