GENERAL AIRSTAGE RLXFZ 4-Zone 45,000 BTU Heat Pump: four 9,000 BTU heads for a fourplex, the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE multi-zone under its new name, installed by AirGreen
This GENERAL AIRSTAGE multi-zone system is, part for part, the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE system built around the AOU45RLXFZ outdoor unit: the same 45,000 BTU Inverter compressor, the same 4 zones, the same page configuration (9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 BTU), the same AHRI certificate 8908617, the same performance values and the same warranty of 12 years on the compressor, 12 years on parts and 6 years on labour. What changed is the manufacturer's name: Fujitsu General Limited became GENERAL Inc. on January 1, 2026.
We built this page around a case we see often in Longueuil and Saint-Hubert: the fourplex whose owner wants to cool and heat four units without lining up four compressors along the back wall. Four 9,000 BTU wall-mounted heads, one per unit, tied to a single outdoor unit: that is the configuration on this page, and it is the leanest way to give every tenant their own setpoint.
Budget matters in a rental building, and a multi-zone respects it without taking anything away from comfort. One outdoor unit to set, one base, one electrical circuit, one outdoor machine to maintain, instead of four separate machines each aging on its own schedule. The heads, for their part, stay independent: every tenant sets their own temperature, airflow and schedule with their own remote. The mode, heating or cooling, is shared by the outdoor unit, as with any multi-zone (multi-split); in a building, it follows the season anyway.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
In August 2025, Paloma Rheem Holdings, owner of Rheem since 1988, acquired Fujitsu General Limited. On January 1, 2026, the company took the name GENERAL Inc. The head office and the R&D centre stayed in Kawasaki, Japan; the factories, the AIRSTAGE products, the model numbers and the warranty program did not move. The Fujitsu brand is being phased out and, during the transition, the same machine is sold under both names. In Canada, Rheem Canada has handled sales since February 2026, and Groupe Master remains our distributor.
That is why we keep both pages online. An owner who shopped for a "Fujitsu 4-zone" and another who read GENERAL AIRSTAGE on a box must find the same AOU45RLXFZ outdoor unit, the same list of compatible heads and the same numbers. The table below puts them side by side.

| Product page | This page | Fujitsu AIRSTAGE RLXFZ 4-zone 45,000 BTU |
The Fujitsu AIRSTAGE RLXFZ 4-zone 45,000 BTU page remains available for a line-by-line comparison; you will find exactly the same values there.
The figures on this page are the values published by the manufacturer. The 45,000 BTU Inverter compressor posts a SEER2 of 20.0 in cooling, an EER2 of 10.5 and an HSPF2 of 9.2 in heating. The HSPF2 sums up the whole heating season: the higher it is, the more heat is delivered per kilowatt-hour consumed. The COP, on the other hand, is a snapshot taken at one precise temperature. At −8 °C, the manufacturer publishes 28,200 BTU/h; at −15 °C, it publishes 31,400 BTU/h with a COP of 1.88, which means almost twice the heat of an electric baseboard for the same electricity. Guaranteed heating goes down to −15 °C, which covers most of the winter in Longueuil; below that point, each unit's baseboards take over.
Concretely, for a fourplex, here is what that gives you:
- One setpoint per zone: every unit has its own remote, its own temperature and its own schedule, without going through the neighbour.
- Four 9,000 BTU heads on a 45,000 BTU compressor: there is margin left for the cold mornings when all four units call at the same time.
- Dehumidification of 3.8 pints per hour in cooling, for units that stay dry in July.
- An outdoor sound level of 55 dB(A): a single source of noise in the yard, instead of four.
- Optional Wi-Fi, handy for the owner who wants to keep an eye on a vacant unit between two tenants.
The 9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 BTU configuration is the one on this page; it is not set in stone. This compressor accepts up to 5 zones and five models of wall-mounted heads: ASU7RLF1 (7,000 BTU), ASU9RLF1 (9,000 BTU), ASU12RLF1 (12,000 BTU), ASU15RF1 (15,000 BTU) and ASU18RLF (18,000 BTU). A corner unit, more exposed to the wind, can receive a 12,000 BTU head while the other three keep 9,000 BTU; a fifth head can serve an owner's room in the basement or a common area. We choose each head with you, unit by unit, after the visit.
Installation by AirGreen on a fourplex follows a simple logic:
- A single outdoor unit, the AOU45RLXFZ, set on a base or a clear bracket at the back of the building, where it gets in the way of neither a balcony nor a bedroom window.
- One refrigerant line per head: four identified lines, grouped in a raceway along the back wall, with a single wall penetration per unit.
- Each head mounted high on a wall of the unit's main room, with the clearance needed for the air to circulate through the whole space.
- Gravity drainage for each head, to the outside or to a drain, without a pump when the slope allows it.
- A single dedicated electrical circuit for the outdoor unit, instead of four.
Maintenance comes down to two things. The indoor filters of each head come out without tools and rinse under water; in a rental building, we show the move to each tenant at commissioning. After that, a regular visit by our refrigeration technician for the outdoor unit, the pressures and the drains is enough. A single outdoor unit to inspect also means a single visit for the whole building.
A frank word about grants: the AOU45RLXFZ outdoor unit is not listed on Hydro-Québec's LogisVert list and does not carry the ENERGY STAR certification. So we promise you no amount for this model. Its argument lies elsewhere: the proven R-410A platform of the RLXFZ series, a single compressor for four units and a warranty of 12 years on the compressor and parts, 6 years on labour, identical to the one offered under the Fujitsu name.
This 4-zone is made for the owner-occupant or the small investor in Longueuil, in Saint-Hubert or elsewhere on the South Shore who wants a single system to manage, a clean yard and four tenants who set their own comfort. It also suits a triplex with a commercial space on the ground floor, or a large house divided into two units that each have two living areas. If the building is heated with electricity and you insist on a heat pump that keeps its full capacity well below −15 °C, ask us about the same manufacturer's certified cold-climate series; we will tell you frankly which one fits your building.
A GENERAL AIRSTAGE multi-zone for your fourplex in Longueuil, in Saint-Hubert and everywhere on the South Shore
AirGreen is an AIRSTAGE Elite Plus installer and an HVAC contractor holding an RBQ licence. We install this 4-zone in Montreal, in Laval, in Longueuil, on the North Shore and on the South Shore. The quote is free: a refrigeration technician comes by, measures each unit, looks at where the four refrigerant lines will run and where the outdoor unit will sit, then hands you a written proposal with the chosen heads.
Call us at 514 316-2973 or request your quote online. The GENERAL brand has existed since 1946 and the company, founded in 1936, marks its 90th year in 2026; the machine we set up at your place is the one Fujitsu installers know by heart, under a name that finally says where it comes from.
What people ask us about multi-zone systems.
Can I heat one room and cool another at the same time?
No. On a multi-zone system like this one, every head works in the same mode, heating or cooling. Each room still keeps its own set temperature.
What happens when every room calls for heat?
They share the outdoor unit’s capacity: 28,200 BTU/h at −8 °C, 31,400 at −15 °C.
How many heads can I connect?
Up to 5 on this outdoor unit. This product is configured for 4 heads.
Down to what temperature does it heat?
Down to −15 °C.
Is it noisy?
Indoors, the reference head goes down to 21 dB(A). Outdoors, 55 dB(A): we place the unit away from bedroom windows.
Why a multi-zone instead of several wall units?
One outdoor unit on the wall and one circuit. In return, the rooms share the capacity, and if the outdoor unit stops, every zone stops.
What does the warranty cover?
Our sheet lists 12 years on the compressor and 12 years on parts. AirGreen extended warranty: possible.
A multi-zone system is planned room by room. At your home.
We measure every room, draw the line route and choose the right head for each zone. The on-site estimate is free and the quote arrives within 24 h.
