GENERAL AIRSTAGE RLXFZ 5-Zone 45,000 BTU Heat Pump: one head per room over three levels, the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE multi-zone under the GENERAL name, installed by AirGreen
The GENERAL AIRSTAGE RLXFZ multi-zone system on this page and the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE system built on the AOU45RLXFZ outdoor unit are one and the same: a 45,000 BTU Inverter compressor, 5 zones, and five wall-mounted heads in the configuration shown here (9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 BTU). The manufacturer is the same, simply renamed: Fujitsu General Limited has been called GENERAL Inc. since January 1, 2026. The AHRI certificate 8908617, the published values and the warranty of 12 years on the compressor, 12 years on parts and 6 years on labour follow the machine, whatever name is printed on the box.
We designed this page for the townhouses of Pointe-Saint-Charles and Verdun, those rows of brick façades where life unfolds over three levels. In a house like that, heat never spreads out on its own: it rises. The ground floor stays cool in January, the top room turns into a greenhouse in July, and a single unit hung in the stairwell satisfies neither floor.
Our answer fits in one sentence: one wall-mounted head per room, five rooms, a single compressor in the yard. Every room gets its own setpoint, the bedroom under the roof stops dictating the living room's temperature, and the back wall carries just one outdoor unit instead of a row of machines.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
The change is first and foremost a matter of corporate name. Paloma Rheem Holdings, which has owned Rheem since 1988, acquired Fujitsu General Limited in August 2025, and the company became GENERAL Inc. on January 1, 2026. Nothing moved: the head office and the R&D centre are still in Kawasaki, Japan, the factories have not changed, and neither have the AIRSTAGE products, the model numbers or the warranty program. The Fujitsu name is gradually fading from the packaging; for as long as the transition lasts, the same outdoor unit can reach us under either label.
So we publish both versions, so that nobody pays for the difference in a name. Rheem Canada has handled sales in the country since February 2026 and Groupe Master remains our distributor: our supply chain is exactly what it was before. The following table lines up the two pages, row by row.

The figures below are the values published by the manufacturer for the AOU45RLXFZ outdoor unit. In cooling, a SEER2 of 20.0 and an EER2 of 10.5 describe a frugal machine during heat waves, right when the top floor of a brick house soaks up the heat from the roof. In heating, the HSPF2 of 9.2 measures average efficiency over an entire season: it is the figure to look at to judge what the heat pump will use from October to April.
The COP tells a different story: how many units of heat the machine delivers for each unit of electricity, at a given temperature. At −15 °C, the manufacturer publishes 31,400 BTU/h with a COP of 1.88, whereas an electric baseboard never returns more than it consumes. Guaranteed heating goes down to −15 °C. Below that threshold, on the harshest nights of the Montreal winter, the baseboards already in place take over: keep them, they become your backup heat and only work when they have to.
Over three levels, here is what changes day to day:
- One setpoint per zone: the top bedroom stays cooler for sleeping while the ground-floor living room keeps its warmth.
- No more overheated floor: each head handles the volume of its own room, instead of pushing air from one floor to the next through the stairwell.
- Dehumidification of 3.8 pints per hour, welcome on a brick ground floor that holds on to summer humidity.
- A single outdoor unit at 55 dB(A) in the yard or near the lane, rather than several machines humming under the neighbours' windows.
- Optional Wi-Fi to adjust each zone from your phone, for instance to take the chill off the top-floor office before you settle in.
With five heads, this system is used to its full potential: the AOU45RLXFZ compressor accepts up to 5 zones, and this page uses all of them. The 9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 BTU configuration remains a starting point, not an obligation. For this five-head setup, three models of wall-mounted heads are compatible: ASU7RLF1 (7,000 BTU), ASU9RLF1 (9,000 BTU) and ASU12RLF1 (12,000 BTU). A small child's bedroom is often fine with the smallest head; a double living room open to the kitchen can justify the largest. We settle the combination with you, room by room, during the visit, taking into account the orientation, the windows and the insulation of each floor.
Installing a 5-zone system on a townhouse is above all a matter of method. Here is how we go about it:
- The AOU45RLXFZ outdoor unit is installed at the back, on a stable base or on a wall bracket that keeps it above the snow, away from bedroom windows, yours as well as the neighbour's.
- Each head gets its own refrigerant line. The five lines run up the back wall in a raceway, or pass through the inside when closets stacked over the three floors offer a discreet path.
- The heads are mounted high on a wall, at a spot where the air sweeps the room without blowing straight onto a bed or a desk.
- Condensate from each head drains by gravity to the outside or to a drain; we only add a pump if the slope demands it.
- The outdoor unit connects to a single dedicated electrical circuit, which spares the panel of an older house.
Maintenance, for its part, is within everyone's reach. Each head hides indoor filters that come out by hand: a rinse in lukewarm water, air drying, and they go back in place. In a five-room house, the simplest approach is to clean them all on the same day, at regular intervals during the seasons of use. The outdoor unit, on the other hand, deserves the eye of a refrigeration technician: coil, pressures, drains and connections. A single outdoor unit means a single appointment for the whole house.
On the question of grants, let us be clear: the AOU45RLXFZ outdoor unit is not on Hydro-Québec's LogisVert list and has no ENERGY STAR certification. We therefore announce no amount for this system. Its value is measured differently: a single compressor for five rooms, an R-410A platform that refrigeration technicians know well, and the same warranty as under the Fujitsu name: 12 years for the compressor and parts, 6 years for labour.
This 5-zone system first suits the Pointe-Saint-Charles or Verdun townhouse whose five rooms share three levels: living room and kitchen downstairs, two bedrooms in the middle, an office or a guest room under the eaves. It serves just as well a duplex turned back into a single-family home or a house extended at the back, anywhere you want five separate setpoints without lining up several outdoor units. For a house that wants to do without its baseboards even in deep cold, a certified cold-climate series from the same manufacturer is better suited; we will tell you so at the visit, without beating around the bush.

What people ask us about multi-zone systems.
Can I heat one room and cool another at the same time?
No. On a multi-zone system like this one, every head works in the same mode, heating or cooling. Each room still keeps its own set temperature.
What happens when every room calls for heat?
They share the outdoor unit’s capacity: 28,200 BTU/h at −8 °C, 31,400 at −15 °C.
How many heads can I connect?
Up to 5 on this outdoor unit. This product is configured for 5 heads.
Down to what temperature does it heat?
Down to −15 °C.
Is it noisy?
Indoors, the reference head goes down to 21 dB(A). Outdoors, 55 dB(A): we place the unit away from bedroom windows.
Why a multi-zone instead of several wall units?
One outdoor unit on the wall and one circuit. In return, the rooms share the capacity, and if the outdoor unit stops, every zone stops.
What does the warranty cover?
Our sheet lists 12 years on the compressor and 12 years on parts. AirGreen extended warranty: possible.
