GENERAL AIRSTAGE RLXFZ 3-Zone 45,000 BTU Heat Pump: The Large Suburban Home, Three 9,000 BTU Heads and Room for a Fourth, Installed by AirGreen
This GENERAL AIRSTAGE page describes, down to the last screw, the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE system built around the AOU45RLXFZ outdoor unit: a 45,000 BTU compressor, 3 zones, and a configuration of three wall-mounted heads of 9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 BTU. The manufacturer, known until now as Fujitsu General Limited, has operated as GENERAL Inc. since January 1, 2026. AHRI certificate 8908617, values published by the manufacturer, a warranty of 12 years on the compressor, 12 years on parts and 6 years on labour: everything is identical.
A large house is not cooled all at once, and it is not heated with a single head. The living spaces are vast, the bedrooms are far from the living room, and needs change over the years: a baby arrives, a teenager moves down to the basement, a parent comes to live with you. This multi-zone system starts with three 9,000 BTU heads and keeps room for a fourth, and even a fifth, on the same compressor. You equip what matters today, and the house follows.
In Terrebonne as in Lachenaie, on the North Shore, the two-storey houses of recent neighbourhoods often have generous open areas, high ceilings and plenty of windows. It is for this kind of house that a 45,000 BTU compressor makes full sense.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
On January 1, 2026, Fujitsu General Limited took the name GENERAL Inc. It follows the acquisition of the company by Paloma Rheem Holdings, in August 2025; that group has owned Rheem since 1988. For you, the practical consequence is zero: the same factories, the same head office and the same R&D centre in Kawasaki, Japan, the same AIRSTAGE products, the same model numbers, the same warranty program. The Fujitsu brand is leaving the picture in stages, and in the meantime the AOU45RLXFZ outdoor unit carries one name or the other depending on the shipment.
So two pages stay online at AirGreen, with a table showing that every value matches. Rheem Canada has looked after Canadian sales since February 2026, and we keep ordering from Groupe Master, our distributor.

In a large house, cooling weighs heavily on the bill when the equipment is inefficient. The manufacturer publishes a SEER2 of 20.0 for this system, the rating that sums up a full cooling season. The EER2 of 10.5 describes performance in intense heat, the afternoon when the sun hits the big living room windows. In cooling, the system also removes up to 3.8 pints of water per hour, a real help for the basement that smells damp in August.
In winter, capacity in deep cold is what makes the difference. According to the values published by the manufacturer, the AOU45RLXFZ gives 28,200 BTU of heat at −8 °C and 31,400 BTU at −15 °C. The COP of 1.88 at −15 °C represents nearly double the heat a baseboard would draw from the same electricity. Over the whole season, the HSPF2 reaches 9.2: it is the rating to look at to judge what the heat pump will save you on heating. At −8 °C, an ordinary winter afternoon on the North Shore, the machine runs comfortably; at −15 °C, a real January night, it is still heating, with a guarantee to back it up. This is not a certified cold-climate model: the existing heating, baseboards or furnace, stays in place for extreme cold.
Three zones mean three independent set points. The main bedroom upstairs, the living room on the ground floor and the office or the family room each have their own setting, and whatever is unoccupied goes on standby. The Inverter compressor doses its output according to the sum of the demands, without jolts. The published sound level of the outdoor unit is 55.0 dB(A); on a suburban lot, we place it on the side where nobody sleeps with the window open.
This page's configuration, three 9,000 BTU heads, is a balanced starting point for three mid-sized rooms. You still choose your indoor units with us, from six models compatible with the AOU45RLXFZ:
- ASU7RLF1 (7,000 BTU): the future fourth zone, if it is a child's bedroom.
- ASU9RLF1 (9,000 BTU): this page's standard head, for a main bedroom or an office.
- ASU12RLF1 (12,000 BTU): the basement family room.
- ASU15RF1 (15,000 BTU): a good-sized open-concept living room.
- ASU18RLF (18,000 BTU): the large room under a cathedral ceiling, kitchen and living room combined.
- ASU24RLF (24,000 BTU): the largest open area in the house, when a single head has to cover it.
Room for a fourth head, and even a fifth since this compressor accepts up to 5 zones, changes the way you plan. From the first visit, we locate the spot for the next head, so that adding it does not mean redoing the installation. The day the basement is finished or a bedroom changes occupant, a new head connects to the same outdoor unit, and we confirm the total of the capacities with you.
The installation we carry out includes:
- The outdoor unit on a raised base, above the snow, on the side or at the back of the house, with the space needed for servicing.
- One refrigerant line per head; for the upstairs heads, the lines run along the façade in a line cover, and those for the ground floor go straight through the exterior wall.
- Heads placed where they can see the whole room, never in a nook or behind a column.
- Condensate drainage by gravity to the outside; for a head in the basement, a condensate pump is planned.
- A dedicated electrical circuit and a full commissioning by a refrigeration technician, zone by zone.
The more heads there are, the more the routine matters. Each head has its washable indoor filters: rinse them regularly during the season, and put a reminder in your calendar if you tend to forget. A yearly visit from our refrigeration technician covers the rest: the outdoor coil, the drains, the connections and the proper operation of each zone. With optional Wi-Fi, you manage the three zones, then the fourth, from your phone.
No grant to expect here: the model is not ENERGY STAR certified and it is not on Hydro-Québec's LogisVert list of October 27, 2026. We would rather tell you right from the start. The appeal of the system lies in its seasonal efficiency, its capacity in deep cold and its warranty.
This is the system for the family living in a large two-storey house who want to equip the three rooms that matter first, without closing the door on what comes next. It also suits anyone planning to finish the basement or welcome a parent, who wants a compressor able to keep up. One outdoor unit, up to five zones: the house can grow without the yard filling up with appliances.

What people ask us about multi-zone systems.
Can I heat one room and cool another at the same time?
No. On a multi-zone system like this one, every head works in the same mode, heating or cooling. Each room still keeps its own set temperature.
What happens when every room calls for heat?
They share the outdoor unit’s capacity: 28,200 BTU/h at −8 °C, 31,400 at −15 °C.
How many heads can I connect?
Up to 5 on this outdoor unit. This product is configured for 3 heads.
Down to what temperature does it heat?
Down to −15 °C.
Is it noisy?
Indoors, the reference head goes down to 21 dB(A). Outdoors, 55 dB(A): we place the unit away from bedroom windows.
Why a multi-zone instead of several wall units?
One outdoor unit on the wall and one circuit. In return, the rooms share the capacity, and if the outdoor unit stops, every zone stops.
What does the warranty cover?
Our sheet lists 12 years on the compressor and 12 years on parts. AirGreen extended warranty: possible.
