GENERAL AIRSTAGE Aquila 5-Zone 45,000 BTU Heat Pump: five 9,000 BTU heads on a single compressor, for the large house or the five-unit building, installed by AirGreen
Five rooms, five wall-mounted heads, a single outdoor unit outside. The GENERAL AIRSTAGE Aquila 5-zone 45,000 BTU multi-zone system is exactly the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE Aquila system built around the AOUH45KWAS5 outdoor unit, shown here in its five-zone configuration of 9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 + 9,000 BTU. On the manufacturer's side, nothing new either: Fujitsu General Limited has carried the name GENERAL Inc. since January 1, 2026. Same AHRI certificate 215735280, same values certified by NEEP, same warranty of 12 years on the compressor, 12 years on parts and 6 years on labour.
We recommend this format when a house or a building goes beyond what a three- or four-zone system can cover. Two cases come up often in Laval. The first is the large house in Laval-Ouest, with a living room, a family room and three bedrooms spread over two floors, heated with baseboards since it was built. The second is the five-unit building in Chomedey, where each apartment has its main room and the owner wants to offer air conditioning and cheaper heating without multiplying machines on the lot.
In both cases, the principle stays the same: each zone has its own 9,000 BTU head, its remote and its setpoint, and the five refrigerant lines converge on a single outdoor unit. The 45,000 BTU Inverter compressor accepts a maximum of 5 zones; with this configuration, it uses them all. That is a deliberate choice, since the whole house is covered from day one, and we tell you plainly before the quote if a sixth room is likely to be added someday.
GENERAL or Fujitsu AIRSTAGE: the same machine
Paloma Rheem Holdings, which has owned Rheem since 1988, acquired Fujitsu General Limited in August 2025. On January 1, 2026, the company became GENERAL Inc. Nothing moves in Kawasaki, Japan, where its head office and R&D centre are still located, nor in its factories; the AIRSTAGE line, the model numbers and the warranty program stay the ones you know. The name itself has served as a brand since 1946, and the company, born in 1936, celebrates 90 years of existence in 2026. Since February 2026, Rheem Canada has handled Canadian sales, and we keep buying from Groupe Master, our distributor.
The Fujitsu brand is being phased out gradually, and during this period the two names coexist on boxes that contain the same unit. We therefore publish two pages for a single system: this one, under the GENERAL AIRSTAGE name, and its twin under the Fujitsu AIRSTAGE name. The table that follows lines them up row by row, from the model number to the warranty.

Five zones means a lot of rooms to heat at the same time on a January morning, and that is where cold-weather capacity matters more than the rated value. According to NEEP (ashp.neep.org), under AHRI certificate 215735280, the AOUH45KWAS5 delivers 31,000 BTU/h at −8 °C at certified rating, with a COP of 2.96, and can peak at up to 41,000 BTU/h. At −15 °C, NEEP lists up to 36,000 BTU/h with a COP of 2.14. The heating guarantee, for its part, goes down to −15 °C. Lower than that, the baseboards you already have take over, provided their thermostats stay set slightly lower than the wall-mounted heads.
What these numbers mean in your home: at −8 °C, an ordinary temperature for Laval in the middle of winter, every kilowatt-hour the compressor consumes becomes nearly three kilowatt-hours of heat spread across the five rooms. An electric baseboard never returns more than it consumes. At −15 °C, efficiency drops, as it does for any heat pump, but the system still delivers more than twice the energy it draws from the grid.
Over the year, two ratings sum up the machine. The HSPF2 of 10.0 measures heating efficiency over a complete season, with its thaws and its cold snaps; the SEER2 of 22.0 does the same for summer, and the EER2 of 12.0 measures efficiency on hot days, when the air conditioning runs at full output. These results earn the model the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation, reserved for the most efficient units of the year, on top of its cold-climate designation.
The Inverter compressor modulates its speed instead of running in on-off cycles. Its certified minimum capacity is 12,000 BTU/h: on mild days, when only part of the house calls for heat, it runs at low speed rather than starting and stopping over and over. The five heads do share a single operating mode, heating or cooling, for the whole house. In spring, a south-facing bedroom sometimes already wants cool air while the basement still asks for a little heat; in Quebec, the seasons turn quickly and the situation lasts only a few days.
The configuration on this page uses five 9,000 BTU heads, but you keep control over the choice. With five zones connected to the AOUH45KWAS5, two compatible indoor units are possible, and you can combine them room by room:
- ASUH09KPAS, 9,000 BTU: the standard head for this system, sized for a bedroom, an office, a family room of ordinary size or the main room of a small apartment.
- ASUH12KPAS, 12,000 BTU: for the zone that works the hardest, the open-plan living room, the large kitchen or the room facing due west.
The mix is decided on site, not on paper. We measure each room, look at the windows, the orientation and the wall insulation, then we validate the chosen combination against the manufacturer's matching rules before writing it into the quote. In a house, a single room sometimes justifies the 12,000 BTU head; in a five-unit building, identical apartments usually get identical heads, which simplifies maintenance and replacement parts.
A five-zone system calls for a well-planned installation, because five refrigerant lines all leave from the same point. The AOUH45KWAS5 outdoor unit is 37 inches wide and runs at 56.0 dB(A); we place it where its five outlets reach the rooms by the shortest and most discreet path, most often on a ground pad at the back of the house, or on the flat roof in the case of a building. It must stay clear of snow and of ice falling from the roof, and away from the neighbours' bedroom windows.
Each wall-mounted head gets its own line, its interconnection cable and its drain. The lines usually run in a line-set cover painted to match the siding, and each condensate drain flows by gravity to the outside; when a head has to go on an interior wall, we add a small condensate pump. On the electrical side, a single dedicated circuit feeds the compressor. In a five-unit building, this is the time to settle the question of the meter with your advisor, since the heating and cooling of all five apartments go through the same unit.
Each head hides indoor filters that come out without tools and wash in warm water; regular cleaning during the heating and cooling seasons keeps the airflow and the efficiency described above. In a rental building, we recommend giving this task to one person for all five heads, rather than counting on each tenant. The refrigeration technician handles the rest during the annual maintenance: cleaning the outdoor coil, checking the drains, the connections and the refrigerant. This system runs on R-32, whose global warming potential is 675, versus 2,088 for R-410A according to ENERGY STAR.
The AOUH45KWAS5 appears on Hydro-Québec's LogisVert list of October 27, 2026, with a grant of $3,720. Eligibility depends on the program rules and on your building; we review them with you when we prepare the quote. Wi-Fi control is available as an option, head by head, to adjust a zone remotely or turn down the guest room when nobody is using it.
This system targets two specific owners. The owner of the large house, who wants even comfort everywhere, without ducts to cut through the floors or a central unit to fit in the basement, and who prefers a single machine outside rather than two or three separate systems. And the owner of the five-unit building, who wants to give each tenant their own temperature while managing only one unit, one warranty and one maintenance schedule. If your project has four zones or fewer, we will steer you toward a smaller configuration; if it has five, this one covers them all with a single cold-climate certified compressor.

What people ask us about multi-zone systems.
Can I heat one room and cool another at the same time?
No. On a multi-zone system like this one, every head works in the same mode, heating or cooling. Each room still keeps its own set temperature.
What happens when every room calls for heat?
They share the outdoor unit’s capacity: 31,000 BTU/h at −8 °C, 36,000 at −15 °C.
How many heads can I connect?
Up to 5 on this outdoor unit. This product is configured for 5 heads.
How much is the LogisVert grant?
$3,720 according to Hydro-Québec’s list of October 27, 2026. The grant never exceeds 100 % of the cost before taxes; apply within 9 months of installation.
Is it ENERGY STAR certified?
Yes, cold climate, ID 3630083. It also meets the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient criteria, according to the ENERGY STAR database.
Down to what temperature does it heat?
Down to −15 °C.
Is it noisy?
Indoors, the reference head goes down to 21 dB(A). Outdoors, 56 dB(A): we place the unit away from bedroom windows.
Why a multi-zone instead of several wall units?
One outdoor unit on the wall and one circuit. In return, the rooms share the capacity, and if the outdoor unit stops, every zone stops.
What does the warranty cover?
Our sheet lists 12 years on the compressor and 12 years on parts. AirGreen extended warranty: possible.
