Does the J-7S heat through a Québec winter?

Fujitsu rates it to heat down to -26 °C, with no cold-weather lockout. The 2-ton keeps up to 89% of its capacity at -18 °C, and a base heater keeps defrost water from freezing.

Can it heat one room and cool another at the same time?

The J-7S is a VRF heat pump. Choosing the mode room by room takes a heat recovery system with branch boxes. We’ll advise you based on your building.

Can I connect my existing Fujitsu wall units?

No. Fujitsu states that J-7S indoor units and accessories work only with J-7S outdoor units.

Which indoor units are available?

Wall-mounted, compact cassette, slim duct and multi-position air handler, from 4,000 to 60,000 BTU/h depending on the type.

How much piping is allowed?

Up to 120 m (393 ft) of total piping, according to Fujitsu. The other limits, such as the farthest unit and height differences, are checked in the technical manual for each project.

Which controls can I use?

Wall controllers (UTY-RNRUZ, UTY-RSRYZ, UTY-RHRYZ), wireless remotes, central controllers, BACnet and Modbus gateways, and a Wi-Fi adapter.

What warranty does Fujitsu offer?

Standard: 7 years on the compressor and 5 years on parts. With online registration: 10 years parts and compressor, for 4 outdoor units or fewer. Installed by an Elite-tier (or higher) contractor and registered: 12 years. Sites with 5 or more outdoor units must be commissioned.

Is the J-7S eligible for LogisVert?

All three sizes are ENERGY STAR Cold Climate certified. LogisVert is a residential program, though, built around one system per dwelling. We confirm your configuration’s eligibility before quoting it.

Does the J-7S detect leaks?

Yes. The ducted indoor units have a built-in leak detection sensor. Fujitsu also offers an optional alarm kit and an automatic shut-off valve kit.

Q: Where can it go?

The outdoor unit is compact: Fujitsu says it can sit under a window or on a balcony, below the railing height. The J-7S is aimed at offices, shops and multi-unit buildings.

The J-7S is Fujitsu’s R-32 mini-VRF, at 2, 3 and 4 tons. A single outdoor unit feeds up to 5, 9 or 12 indoor units, with up to 120 m of total piping. It heats down to -26 °C, with no low-temperature lockout according to Fujitsu. For a condo, a plex or a small business.

Fujitsu describes heat recovery this way: “cooling and heating operation can be selected individually for each indoor unit.” That is not the J-7S; we discuss it at the estimate.

Below the railing, above the snow.

Below the railing

Fujitsu says the outdoor unit can tuck under a window or below a balcony railing. Its published dimensions: 998, 940 and 320 mm.

Above the snow

Fujitsu’s VRF installation manual calls for a raised support, higher than drifting snow.

Hood and baffle

Fujitsu recommends snow hoods and drift-prevention fencing, with a suitable air baffle.

Room for ice

Space is needed under the unit for ice from the defrost water.

Up to 120 m in total.

The farthest unit, the length after the first branch and the height differences are in Fujitsu’s technical manual; we check them at design time.

12% less refrigerant

The J-7S uses 12% less refrigerant than the previous generation, according to Fujitsu. The factory charge is limited to 5.95 lb on all models.

R-32 safety

Leak sensor built into the ducted units. Optional: a gas alarm kit and a shut-off valve kit that closes the piping if a leak is detected.

10 · Hydro-Québec LogisVert

To be confirmed for each project.

LogisVert and VRF: Hydro-Québec’s guide does not name VRF. It covers residential buildings, with one complete system per dwelling: one outdoor unit and one or more indoor units. The amounts below follow the guide’s rule ($120 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C); your project’s eligibility is confirmed with Hydro-Québec.

For VRF, Fujitsu has its own ladder: 5 years parts and 7 years compressor as standard, 10 and 10 years registered, 12 and 12 years with an Elite-tier contractor. AirGreen is Elite Plus.
