LG eight-zone heat pump: the Eight-Zone, two full boxes
Eight heads is the most an LG outdoor unit takes: two four-port distribution boxes, every port in use. Four units do it, the Eight-Zone KUMXB481A, KUMXB541A, KUMXB601A and KUMXA481A. On the two 48,000 BTU/h units, at least half the heads must be 7,000s.

Eight heads: every port in use
Eight is the last room count an LG outdoor unit accepts. The four units that do it are the ones LG calls Eight-Zone.
Two four-port boxes, on a Y
LG allows at most two distribution boxes per outdoor unit, and a box has four ports at most. Eight heads fill everything: no ninth room is possible on an LG system.
LG in fact measures the certified rating of the KUMXB481A, KUMXB541A and KUMXB601A with eight 16.4 ft branches behind a 16.4 ft main line, 147.6 ft of piping in all.
KUMXA481A: eight heads, not six
The only LGRED° with eight heads. LG’s combination manual for its R-32 LGRED° units (PDF dated January 15, 2026) gives it eight heads and 18,000 to 65,000 BTU/h of connected capacity. LG’s LGRED page announces “up to 6 zones” for the whole range: we follow the document that lists the model.
Eight heads on a 48,000: half at 7,000
Eight 9,000 heads make 72,000, too much for the 65,000 of the KUMXB481A and KUMXA481A. The tool opens on four 9,000s and four 7,000s, or 64,000. The KUMXB541A takes all eight 9,000s; the KUMXB601A, up to three 12,000s with five 9,000s.
This combination fits LG’s range of 18,000 BTU/h to 65,000 BTU/h.
Connected capacity ranges and largest wall head with 8 heads: LG R-32 combination data manuals (PDFs dated January 15, 2026). With 8 heads, the tool checks neither exclusions by head type nor the capacity per distribution-box port: we confirm those on the quote.
Marker: ceiling of the KUMXB481A and KUMXA481A, 65,000 BTU/h of connected heads.
| Unit (LG ceiling) | All at 9,000 | All at 12,000 | Largest head, the rest at 7,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 48,000 units, ceiling 65,000 | 72,000 · no; 9,000 × 4 + 7,000 × 4 = 64,000 | no | 15,000 (64,000); 18,000 and 24,000 · no |
| KUMXB541A, ceiling 73,000 | 72,000 · yes | no, not even one 12,000 with seven 9,000s (75,000) | 24,000 (73,000, exact ceiling) |
| KUMXB601A, ceiling 81,000 | 72,000 · yes | 96,000 · no; 12,000 × 3 + 9,000 × 5 = 81,000 | 24,000 (73,000) · yes |
Eight branches within 90 m
Eight branches, 11.25 m on average
The 90 m (295.3 ft) of branches LG allows are shared among eight heads: 11.25 m (36.9 ft) on average at most, while a single branch may run up to 15 m. The more heads sit far from their box, the closer the others must be.
Limits read on LG’s KUMXA361A and KUMXB601A spec sheets; for the KUMXB481A, KUMXB541A and KUMXA481A, presumed identical and checked on the quote.

Three eight-head listings, one on the list
On the LogisVert list of October 27, 2026, the 8-zone collection has a single listing, the KUMXB481A, at $1,690. For the other two, the R-410A LMU480HV and LMU600HV, there is no NEEP, ENERGY STAR or Hydro-Québec record.

| LMU480HV | R-410A | not confirmed | not confirmed | not on the list |
| LMU600HV | R-410A | not confirmed | not confirmed | not on the list |
In the store the KUMXB481A is titled “Multi F”: it is a Multi F MAX according to LG. The maximum head count and family of the LMU480HV and LMU600HV are not confirmed by any LG document read.
No eight-room LG multi-zone is part of our published projects yet.
