What to know before putting a coil on a furnace.

The cased coil is designed for a furnace of the same width: B 17.5, C 21, D 24.5 in.

Never at the same time
The coil control must stop the heat pump from running unless the fan is on, and stop the heat pump and the furnace from running at the same time.

Gas: 200 °F
With a gas furnace, the heat exchanger must not exceed 200 °F: beyond that, the leak sensor may malfunction.

Oil: the 120 °C limit
The coil has a 120 °C continuous limit. ELIOS rules out installations where it may be exceeded, “such as with an oil furnace”.

Questions
Questions about ELIOS add-on coils.
How do I know which coil fits my furnace?
Measure the furnace cabinet width: 17.5, 21 or 24.5 in match ELIOS’s B, C and D cabinets. The “Furnace width” tool above sorts it out; we confirm on site.
Does it work with a gas furnace?
ELIOS provides for it: dual fuel mode, adjustable switch-over, and the heat exchanger must stay under 200 °F. Gas, oil and hydronic work is outside our RBQ licence (15.8, 15.10 and 16): it is done by a partner who holds the required licence.
And with an oil furnace?
ELIOS names the oil furnace as an example of an installation where the coil’s 120 °C limit may be exceeded, and rules such uses out. We check with the licensed partner before any quotation.
Do the “avec boîtier” titles mean “cased”?
No: those six listings use uncased coils (GUHMA) with the ESHEA outdoor unit, rated to −25 °C. The cased coils are the GCHMA.
And if my furnace is 14.5 in?
ELIOS makes no coil of that width. A transition is needed: we measure and propose the solution.
Does LogisVert apply to an add-on?
Yes if the pair is on Hydro-Québec’s list: $1,824 to $4,320 for R-454B coils with ESHMA/ESHMB units as of Oct. 25, 2026. Several ESHEA pairs and the 4- and 5-ton R-410A units are not on it.
What warranty on an ELIOS add-on?
ELIOS publishes 1 year on parts and 5 years on the compressor, with optional 10-year coverage. ELIOS publishes no labour warranty.
