Quick facts
22.5 kW modulated from 0 to 100% for a commercial building on 208 V single phase
What the VoltMax SCR 23-208-1 PH is
Thermo 2000’s VoltMax is an electric hot-water boiler designed for commercial, institutional and multi-unit buildings. This model, designated VOLTMAX SCR 23-208-1 PH by the manufacturer, delivers 22.5 kW on a 208 V single-phase supply. It heats the water of a loop of radiators, baseboards or radiant floor, with no GHG emissions on site.
What sets it apart is the way it measures out its output. On top of its relay stages, the VoltMax modulates its output from 0 to 100% through a solid-state relay (SCR). Rather than switching its elements on in blocks, it follows demand continuously. According to Thermo 2000, this modulation limits the peak power the boiler draws. Its six Incoloy immersion elements are replaceable, and the unit is designed to be quiet, clean and low-maintenance.
Its place in a Quebec building
It typically suits a ground-floor commercial space of a mixed-use building in Montreal, a small apartment building in Laval heated by a central loop, or South Shore offices that have kept their hot-water radiators. In these buildings supplied at 208 V single phase, the VoltMax draws 108.4 A at full output: we size the protection and conductors from the unit’s nameplate.
Its vertical design needs little room. Thermo 2000 specifies clearances of 3 in at the sides and rear, 24 in at the front and 32 in above. The unit weighs 310 lb (141 kg) and holds 11 US gal of water. Its Schneider Electric controller, with a 3 in backlit display, shows alarm codes in French or English, applies outdoor reset with the included sensor and connects to a building management system over BACnet IP or MS-TP.
What AirGreen’s installation covers
We start with a free on-site estimate: existing loop, mechanical room, electrical service and the building’s needs. The written quote that follows lists the circulator and expansion tank, which are not among the supplied parts, as well as the low-water cut-off, optional at this size.
Our technicians set the boiler in place while respecting the clearances, connect it to the loop through its 1 1/2 in male NPT connections and pipe the discharge of the factory-installed relief valve. They mount the outdoor sensor, make the electrical connection under AirGreen’s RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 (ventilation, refrigeration and electrical), then set the setpoint, between 50 °F and 200 °F, and the outdoor reset.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years. We also work in Longueuil and on the North Shore. Thermo 2000 warrants the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.

Hot-water heating for a commercial or multi-unit building
The VoltMax SCR heats the water of a hydronic loop: radiators, hot-water baseboards or radiant floor. Thermo 2000 designs it for commercial, institutional and multi-unit buildings, with solid-state output modulation.
- Commercial space or offices heated by a hot-water loop
- Small apartment building with a central boiler
- Building connected to a building automation system (BACnet)
- Replacing a commercial electric boiler at the end of its life

Frequently asked questions
What does SCR modulation bring?
The solid-state relay (SCR) varies the output from 0 to 100% instead of only switching elements on in blocks. Thermo 2000 says this modulation limits the peak power the boiler draws.
Why is the model called 23 when it delivers 22.5 kW?
The number 23 is Thermo 2000’s model designation (VOLTMAX SCR 23-208-1 PH). The output the manufacturer publishes at 208 V is 22.5 kW.
What electrical supply is needed?
A 208 V single-phase, 60 Hz supply able to deliver 108.4 A. We size the protection and conductors from the unit’s nameplate.
Can it connect to our building management system?
Yes. The controller communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP, accepts an external 0-10 Vdc signal for setpoint and output, and its Ethernet port gives access to a web page and email alarms.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
10 years on the tank (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and 2 years on electrical and mechanical components, parts and accessories.
