Quick facts
27 kW to heat a building supplied at 208 V single phase, and its hot water if needed
One boiler, two uses
In many small buildings in Montreal and Laval, a single mechanical room serves both the heating of the units and the hot water at the taps. Thermo 2000’s VoltMax SCR 27-208-1 PH is designed for this kind of building. It delivers 27 kW to a loop of radiators, baseboards or radiant floor, and its controller provides a 2nd setpoint for an indirect water heater, with a pump contact that can give priority to domestic hot water.
Thermo 2000 intends it for commercial, institutional and multi-unit buildings. All the heat is electric, with no GHG emissions on site, and the manufacturer highlights a quiet, clean, low-maintenance unit.
What the VoltMax SCR 27-208-1 PH brings
Its six 6 kW Incoloy immersion elements are replaceable. They are driven by relay stages and by a solid-state relay (SCR) that modulates output from 0 to 100%, which, according to Thermo 2000, limits peak power demand. The setpoint ranges from 50 °F to 200 °F (10 °C to 93 °C), and the included outdoor sensor allows weather-based reset.
The Schneider Electric controller shows its alarm codes in French or English on a 3 in backlit display. For a building managed remotely, it offers BACnet IP or MS-TP, an external 0-10 Vdc control, an Ethernet port with a web page and email alarms.
Electrical and space: the points to confirm
On a 208 V single-phase supply, the boiler draws 130.1 A at full output. That is a large load for a single phase: we check the building’s electrical service and size the protection and conductors from the nameplate. The vertical design, for its part, needs little room: 3 in at the sides and rear, 24 in at the front and 32 in above. The unit weighs 310 lb (141 kg) and holds 11 US gal of water.
Our work on site
It all starts with a free on-site estimate and a written quote. The quote includes the circulator, the expansion tank and, if you want domestic hot water, the indirect water heater, since none of them are among the supplied parts. It also covers the low-water cut-off, optional at this size.
Our technicians install the boiler, connect it through its 1 1/2 in male NPT connections, pipe the discharge of the factory-installed relief valve and mount the outdoor sensor. The electrical connection is made under AirGreen’s RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 (ventilation, refrigeration and electrical). We then set both setpoints and the hot-water priority.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, also installing in Longueuil, on the South Shore and on the North Shore. Thermo 2000 warrants the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.

Frequently asked questions
How does the boiler handle domestic hot water?
With an indirect water heater connected to the loop. The controller provides a 2nd setpoint for that water heater and a pump contact with or without domestic hot water priority. The indirect water heater is added to the quote.
What electrical supply is needed?
208 V single phase, 60 Hz, able to deliver 130.1 A. We size the protection and conductors from the nameplate and check the building’s electrical service.
Can the elements be replaced?
Yes. Thermo 2000 uses replaceable Incoloy immersion elements. This model has six 6 kW elements.
How much room is needed in the mechanical room?
Thermo 2000 requires 3 in at the sides and rear, 24 in at the front and 32 in above, and no clearance to the floor. Also plan room for the circulator, the expansion tank and, if applicable, the indirect water heater.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
10 years on the tank (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and 2 years on electrical and mechanical components, parts and accessories.
