Quick facts
30 kW of hot-water heat, modulated continuously, for a building on 208 V single phase
Who the VoltMax SCR 30-208-1 PH is for
This Thermo 2000 commercial electric boiler is meant for buildings supplied at 208 V single phase that need 30 kW of heat: a multi-unit building heated by a radiator loop, retail or offices with hot-water baseboards, an institutional building connected to a management system. It heats the loop water with no GHG emissions on site, using eight replaceable 5 kW Incoloy immersion elements.
144.5 A: the electrical study comes first
At full output, the VoltMax SCR 30-208-1 PH draws 144.5 A on a single phase. Before talking about piping, we need to know whether the building’s electrical service can take it, given its other loads. We do this assessment during the free estimate, and we size the protection and conductors from the unit’s nameplate. Whether the building is in Montreal or Longueuil, this is the point that drives the choice of model.
SCR modulation and controls
On a load this size, the way output is delivered matters. The VoltMax does not just switch its elements on in blocks: a solid-state relay (SCR) modulates output from 0 to 100%, alongside the relay stages, which the controller alternates. According to Thermo 2000, this modulation limits the peak power the boiler draws.
The Schneider Electric controller, with a 3 in backlit display, sets the setpoint from 50 °F to 200 °F and applies outdoor reset with the included sensor. It shows alarm codes in French or English, sends alarms by email through the Ethernet port and communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP. An external 0-10 Vdc signal can also control setpoint and output, and a 2nd setpoint can feed an indirect water heater.
Installation and start-up by AirGreen
Once the electrical side is confirmed, we give you a written quote. It includes the circulator and expansion tank, which are not among the supplied parts, and the low-water cut-off, optional at this size. Our technicians place the boiler while respecting Thermo 2000’s clearances: 3 in at the sides and rear, 24 in at the front, 32 in above. The unit weighs 310 lb (141 kg) and holds 11 US gal of water.
They connect it to the loop through its 1 1/2 in male NPT connections, pipe the discharge of the factory-installed relief valve and mount the outdoor sensor. The electrical connection is made under AirGreen’s RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 (ventilation, refrigeration and electrical). Start-up includes setting the setpoint and the alarms.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years; we also install in Laval, on the South Shore and on the North Shore. Thermo 2000 warrants the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.

30 kW of hot-water heat for a building on 208 V single phase
The VoltMax SCR feeds a loop of radiators, baseboards or radiant floor in a commercial, institutional or multi-unit building. Its SCR modulation matches output to demand rather than only switching elements on in blocks.
- Multi-unit building supplied at 208 V single phase
- Retail or offices heated by a radiator loop
- Building that wants to limit the peak power of its heating
- Institutional building connected to a BACnet system

Frequently asked questions
Can our electrical service take this boiler?
It draws 144.5 A on 208 V single phase at full output. The answer depends on the service capacity and the building’s other loads: we assess it during the estimate, before anything is ordered.
What does SCR modulation change on a load this size?
The solid-state relay adjusts output from 0 to 100% instead of switching all the elements on at once. According to Thermo 2000, this limits the peak power the boiler draws.
Can it also heat domestic water?
With an indirect water heater, yes. The controller provides a 2nd setpoint for that water heater and a pump contact with or without domestic hot water priority.
How much room should we plan for?
Thermo 2000 requires 3 in at the sides and rear, 24 in at the front and 32 in above. The unit weighs 310 lb (141 kg) and holds 11 US gal of water.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
10 years on the tank (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and 2 years on electrical and mechanical components, parts and accessories.
