Quick facts
A 34 kW electric boiler that adjusts its output from 0 to 100% for buildings on 208 V three phase
The VoltMax 34 and the buildings it heats
Thermo 2000’s VoltMax is a hot water electric boiler designed for commercial and institutional buildings. The series covers 22.5 to 180 kW, single phase or three phase, from 208 to 600 V. The 34 kW model belongs to configuration A, which groups the 22.5 to 90 kW sizes. On a 208 V three-phase supply, it produces 116,008 BTU/h and draws 93.9 A.
It suits buildings heated with water: a small office building, a neighbourhood store, an apartment building whose radiators or radiant floors are connected to a central loop. It can also feed the hot water coils of a ventilation system (hydro-air) and, thanks to its controller’s second setpoint, an indirect water heater.
Output that follows the building’s demand
What sets the SCR series apart is its modulation. Solid-state relays vary the output from 0 to 100%, in addition to relay stages. Instead of jumping from one whole element to the next, the boiler supplies the heat the building needs at that moment. Thermo 2000 points out that this approach limits peak power demand. The controller also rotates the stages to share the work among the elements.
The outdoor sensor is included. The Schneider Electric controller uses it to adjust the water temperature to the weather: cooler water in mild weather, hotter water during cold snaps, within a 50 °F to 200 °F setpoint range. Its 3 in backlit LCD shows alarm codes in French or English, in °C or °F.
For building managers, the controller communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP, accepts an external 0-10 Vdc signal for setpoint and output, and offers a web page and email alarms through its Ethernet port.
What installation by AirGreen covers
We start with a free on-site estimate in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore or on the South Shore. We look at the 208 V three-phase service, the mechanical room and the existing hot water loop. You then receive a written quote that specifies the circulator and expansion tank to plan for, since they are not among the parts supplied by the manufacturer.
On installation day, we position the boiler with the required clearances: 24 in in front, 32 in above, 3 in on the sides and at the back. We connect it to the loop through its 1 1/2 in NPT connections, pipe the relief valve discharge, mount the outdoor sensor and make the electrical connection. After filling and purging, we program the controller and check the modulation with you.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Thermo 2000, for its part, covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.
Let’s talk about your building
To replace or add an electric boiler in your building, ask for your free estimate. We give you a clear written quote, and financing is available so the project can go ahead without waiting.
Hot water heating for a building on a 208 V three-phase supply
The VoltMax 34 heats the water of a closed hydronic loop and sends it to the building’s radiant floors, radiators or ventilation coils. Its output follows the demand instead of switching between full power and nothing.
- Small commercial buildings and offices on a 208 V three-phase supply
- Apartment buildings heated by a central hot water loop
- Radiant floors, radiators and hot water coils (hydro-air)
- Indirect water heater connected to the controller’s 2nd setpoint
Specifications
From the manufacturer’s documentation. A value the manufacturer does not publish is not listed.
What to know before installing
- Dedicated 208 V three-phase, 60 Hz circuit. The unit draws 93.9 A: the electrician sizes the breaker and conductors from that current.
- The circulator and expansion tank are not on Thermo 2000’s list of supplied parts: they are chosen for your loop and listed in the quote.
- Clearances required by the manufacturer: 24 in in front, 32 in above, 3 in on the sides and at the back, none underneath.
- On this size, the low water cut-off is an option (it is standard above 60 kW).
- The unit weighs 310 lb (141 kg), plus the water it holds. Plan access to the mechanical room accordingly.
- The VoltMax is designed for commercial and institutional buildings. For a single-family house, we suggest a Thermo 2000 residential series instead.
- Schneider Electric controller with backlit display
- Outdoor temperature sensor
- Control ON/OFF switch
- Control and power fuses and breakers
- SCR relays
- 2 limit controls, one automatic, one manual
- Factory-installed relief valve
- Drain valve

Frequently asked questions
What does SCR modulation change compared with a staged boiler?
A staged boiler adds or removes whole elements. The VoltMax 34 combines relay stages with SCR solid-state relays that vary the output from 0 to 100%. According to Thermo 2000, this modulation limits the building’s peak power demand.
Can it be connected to the building management system?
Yes. The Schneider Electric controller communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP and accepts a 0-10 Vdc signal for setpoint and output. Its Ethernet port also gives access to a web page and email alarms.
What comes with the boiler?
Thermo 2000 supplies the controller, the outdoor sensor, the control switch, the control and power fuses and breakers, the SCR relays, two limit controls, the factory-installed relief valve and the drain valve.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
The manufacturer covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, for closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years, parts and accessories.
Can you install it in our mechanical room?
Yes, after a free on-site estimate. We check the 208 V three-phase service, the required clearances and the hot water loop, then give you a written quote.
