A commercial boiler for 240 V buildings
Thermo 2000’s VoltMax SCR 30-240-1 PH delivers 30 kW, or 102,360 BTU/h according to the manufacturer, from a 240 V single-phase supply. It is an electric hot-water boiler designed for commercial, institutional and multi-unit buildings. It feeds a loop of radiators, baseboards or radiant floor, and its controller can handle an indirect water heater on a 2nd setpoint.
It suits a small commercial building in Laval, an apartment building in Montreal heated by hot-water baseboards, or any South Shore building with a narrow mechanical room.
Quiet, clean and easy to maintain
Thermo 2000 highlights three qualities of the VoltMax: it is quiet, clean and needs little maintenance. All the heat is electric, with no GHG emissions on site. Its six 5 kW Incoloy immersion elements can be replaced when needed, and a solid-state relay (SCR) modulates their output from 0 to 100%, on top of the relay stages that the controller alternates.
The Schneider Electric controller works in French or English, in °C or °F, on a 3 in backlit display that shows alarm codes. It handles schedules, outdoor reset with the included sensor and a setpoint adjustable from 50 °F to 200 °F. For remote monitoring, it offers an Ethernet port with a web page and email alarms, BACnet IP or MS-TP and an external 0-10 Vdc control.
Electrical, water and space
On 240 V single phase, the boiler draws 125 A at full output. We size the protection and conductors from the nameplate and check the capacity of the electrical service. The unit holds 11 US gal of water, weighs 310 lb (141 kg) and connects to the loop through four 1 1/2 in male NPT side connections. The required clearances are short: 3 in at the sides and rear, 24 in at the front and 32 in above.
How the installation goes
We start with a free on-site estimate, then give you a written quote. It includes the circulator and expansion tank, which are not among the supplied parts, as well as the low-water cut-off if required: at this size, it is optional.
Our technicians set the boiler in place, connect it to the loop, pipe the discharge of the factory-installed relief valve and mount the outdoor sensor. AirGreen holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work, and makes the electrical connection itself. We finish by setting the setpoint, schedules and alarms.
