Quick facts
66 kW of hot-water heating on 240 V single phase, with standard safety devices
A high-output boiler for a single-phase supply
A large apartment building in Montreal or on the South Shore, a commercial building without three-phase power: when the heating load exceeds 60 kW, you need a high-output boiler that accepts 240 V single phase. Thermo 2000’s VoltMax 66 is one. It delivers 66 kW, or 225,192 BTU/h, to the water loop that feeds radiators, radiant floors or hydro-air coils, and can serve an indirect water heater through its second setpoint.
Factory-installed safety devices
Above 60 kW, Thermo 2000 installs a low water cut-off as standard. This device interrupts heating if the water level drops in the boiler, so the elements do not heat dry. It adds to the other supplied safety devices:
- two limit controls, one with automatic reset and one manual;
- a factory-installed relief valve;
- control and power fuses and breakers;
- an on/off control switch.
The manufacturer’s specification also lists CSA C22.2 No. 165-92 and UL 834 certification, a tank compliant with CSA B-51-14, CRN registration and the ASME Section IV “H” stamp.
On the heating side, 6 immersion elements of 5 kW and 6 of 6 kW, Incoloy and replaceable, work under a solid-state relay (SCR) that modulates output from 0 to 100%. According to Thermo 2000, this modulation limits peak power demand. The included outdoor sensor sets water temperature by the weather, between 50 °F and 200 °F (10 °C to 93 °C).
Before choosing this size
The deciding point is electrical. Thermo 2000 publishes a current of 275 A for this model: a large load for a single-phase service. We compare it with the available capacity and the building’s other equipment before confirming the VoltMax 66 rather than a neighbouring size in the series, such as the 60 kW or 72 kW VoltMax.
The boiler is vertical and compact: 3 in of clearance on the sides and back, 24 in at the front, 32 in above, set directly on the floor. It weighs 310 lb (141 kg) and holds 11 US gal of water. The circulator and expansion tank are added, since they are not among the supplied parts.
Your installation by AirGreen
Everything starts with a free on-site estimate and a written quote. Our technicians then install the VoltMax, connect it to the loop through its 1 1/2 in male NPT side connections, extend the relief valve discharge, make the electrical connection and mount the outdoor sensor. They fill and purge the system, check that the safety devices work and set up the controller with you.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.

Frequently asked questions
What is the low water cut-off for?
It interrupts heating if the water level drops in the boiler, so the elements do not heat dry. Thermo 2000 installs it as standard on VoltMax models above 60 kW, including this 66 kW model.
What current should be planned for?
Thermo 2000 publishes 275 A for this model on 240 V single phase. During the free estimate, we check that the electrical service can carry this load along with the building’s other equipment.
How many heating elements does it contain?
6 immersion elements of 5 kW and 6 of 6 kW, Incoloy and replaceable. The controller rotates the order of the stages, and the solid-state relay modulates output from 0 to 100%.
What other safety devices are supplied?
Two limit controls (automatic and manual), the factory-installed relief valve, control and power fuses and breakers, and an on/off control switch.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
A 10-year limited warranty on the tank for closed-loop heating, and 2 years on electrical and mechanical components.
