Quick facts
55 kW of central hot-water heating for your apartment building on a 240 V supply
For buildings heated by radiators
Many apartment buildings in Montreal, Longueuil and Laval are heated by a single central boiler that feeds radiators in each unit. When that boiler reaches the end of its life, Thermo 2000’s VoltMax 55 can take over. Running on 240 V single phase, it delivers 55 kW, or 187,660 BTU/h, to the building’s hot-water loop.
The VoltMax SCR is the manufacturer’s commercial electric boiler, designed for commercial, institutional and multi-unit buildings. It also suits radiant floors and hydro-air systems, if the building has them.
Tenant comfort, tuned to the weather
A radiator network does not need the same water temperature in November as in January. With the included outdoor sensor, the Schneider Electric controller adjusts water temperature to the weather, within a setpoint of 50 °F to 200 °F (10 °C to 93 °C). The solid-state relay (SCR) then varies output from 0 to 100%. According to Thermo 2000, this modulation limits peak power demand, and the unit stays quiet, clean and low-maintenance.
The units’ hot water can also go through the boiler. The controller provides a second setpoint for an indirect water heater and a pump contact with or without domestic hot water priority.
Inside, Incoloy immersion elements in two sizes do the work: 5 of 5 kW and 5 of 6 kW. They are replaceable, and the controller rotates the order of the stages.
Boiler room and electrical service: what to check
Thermo 2000 publishes a current of 229.2 A for this model. First, we check that the building’s electrical service can take it, on top of the other loads. In the boiler room, the VoltMax 55 takes up little space: the documentation calls for 3 in of clearance on the sides and back, 24 in at the front and 32 in above, and the unit can sit on the floor. It weighs 310 lb (141 kg) and holds 11 US gal of water.
The circulator and expansion tank are not among the supplied parts, and the low water cut-off is an option at 55 kW. We list them in the quote based on your network.
AirGreen, from estimate to commissioning
We start with a free on-site estimate, then give you a written quote. On installation day, our technicians remove the old unit, set the VoltMax in place, connect it to the loop through its 1 1/2 in NPT side connections, make the electrical connection, mount the outdoor sensor, fill and purge the network, then set the heating curve. We schedule the work with you to keep the tenants’ time without heat as short as possible.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.

Central hot-water heating for an apartment building
The VoltMax 55 supplies the radiators or radiant floors of every unit from a single boiler room. Its second setpoint can also heat an indirect water heater for the tenants’ hot water.
- Apartment buildings heated by hot-water radiators
- Replacing an end-of-life central electric boiler
- Buildings with a 240 V single-phase supply
- Hot water for the units produced by an indirect water heater

Frequently asked questions
Our building has a 240 V single-phase supply: is the VoltMax 55 suitable?
It is designed for that supply. Thermo 2000 publishes a current of 229.2 A for this model; during the free estimate, we check that the electrical service can take it along with the building’s other loads.
Can it replace an old boiler that feeds radiators?
Yes, if the output matches the heating load. It produces 187,660 BTU/h and its setpoint goes up to 200 °F (93 °C). We compare these values with the existing boiler and the building’s actual needs.
How many heating elements does it have?
Incoloy immersion elements in two sizes: 5 of 5 kW and 5 of 6 kW. They are replaceable, and the controller rotates the order of the stages.
Can the units’ hot water go through the boiler?
Yes, with an indirect water heater. The controller gives it a second setpoint and runs the pump with or without domestic hot water priority.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
10 years on the tank (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and 2 years on electrical and mechanical components.
