Quick facts
48 kW to heat a large commercial space through the floor, on a 240 V single-phase service
The VoltMax 48 and buildings without three phase
Thermo 2000’s VoltMax is a hot water electric boiler designed for commercial and institutional buildings. The 48 kW model, on 240 V single phase, produces 163,776 BTU/h and draws 200 A. It is part of the series’ configuration A, from 22.5 to 90 kW, and heats the water with 8 replaceable Incoloy immersion elements of 6 kW.
It is intended for commercial buildings that have no three-phase service but need a lot of heat: a showroom, a commercial garage, a large-area space heated by a radiant slab. It can also feed radiators, hot water coils or an indirect water heater.
A well-controlled radiant slab
A radiant slab stores heat and releases it slowly. To get the most from it, the water temperature has to follow the weather and the occupancy hours. The VoltMax’s Schneider Electric controller takes care of that: the included outdoor sensor adjusts the water to the outside temperature, within a 50 °F to 200 °F setpoint range, and schedules reduce heating when the space is closed.
Output follows the same logic. SCR solid-state relays vary it from 0 to 100%, in addition to relay stages that the controller rotates, and Thermo 2000 points out that this modulation limits peak power demand. The manufacturer describes its boiler as quiet, clean and low maintenance.
The 3 in backlit screen shows alarm codes in French or English. The Ethernet port provides a web page and email alarms, and the controller communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP if the building has a management system.
What installation by AirGreen covers
At 200 A on 240 V single phase, the electrical service is the starting point. During the free estimate in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore or on the South Shore, we check its capacity and tell you if it needs to be upgraded. We also examine the slab or the existing loop. The written quote specifies the circulator, the expansion tank and, if needed, the floor manifolds, which are not supplied with the boiler.
Our technicians then install the boiler with the required clearances (24 in in front, 32 in above, 3 in on the sides and at the back), connect it through its 1 1/2 in NPT connections, mount the outdoor sensor and make the electrical connection. After filling and purging, we set the setpoint, outdoor reset and schedules to suit how the space is used.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.

A commercial radiant floor on a single-phase service
Showrooms, commercial garages and large-area premises can be heated by a radiant slab. When the building only has 240 V single phase, the VoltMax 48 delivers 48 kW to that slab, with schedules and weather-based compensation.
- Radiant slabs in showrooms and commercial garages
- Commercial buildings on 240 V single phase
- Premises used on a schedule, kept at reduced heat evenings and weekends
- Indirect water heater connected to the second setpoint

What to know before installing
- 240 V single-phase, 60 Hz power supply. At 200 A, the boiler alone needs a large electrical service: we check its capacity before any quote and tell you if it needs to be upgraded.
- A radiant slab runs on cooler water than radiators: the setpoint and outdoor reset are set accordingly, within the 50 °F to 200 °F range.
- The circulator, expansion tank and floor manifolds are not supplied with the boiler.
- Clearances: 24 in in front, 32 in above, 3 in on the sides and at the back, none at the floor.
- Low water cut-off optional on this size (standard above 60 kW).
- Schneider Electric controller with backlit display
- Outdoor temperature sensor
- Control ON/OFF switch
- Control and power fuses and breakers
- SCR relays
- 2 limit controls, one automatic, one manual
- Factory-installed relief valve
- Drain valve

Frequently asked questions
Is our electrical service enough for 200 A?
It depends on its total capacity and the loads already connected. We do this assessment during the free estimate and tell you in the quote whether the service needs to be upgraded.
Can heating be reduced in the evening and on weekends?
Yes. The controller handles schedules, and the included outdoor sensor adjusts the water temperature to the weather. A radiant slab responds slowly: we set the schedules with its thermal inertia in mind.
Can the VoltMax also heat domestic water?
With an indirect water heater. The controller offers a second setpoint for that heater and a pump contact, with or without domestic hot water priority.
Are the elements replaceable?
Yes. This model has 8 Incoloy immersion elements of 6 kW, which Thermo 2000 designs to be replaced.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
10 years on the tank (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and 2 years on electrical and mechanical components, parts and accessories.
