Quick facts
40 kW and water up to 200 °F for your building’s radiators and floors
What the 240 V VoltMax 40 is
Thermo 2000 designs the VoltMax for commercial, institutional and apartment buildings heated with water. The 40 kW model, on 240 V single phase, produces 136,480 BTU/h and draws 166.7 A. It belongs to the series’ configuration A, from 22.5 to 90 kW, and heats the water with 8 replaceable Incoloy immersion elements of 5 kW.
In Montreal, many apartment buildings are still heated by hot water radiators. Other buildings have radiant floors: an addition, a ground-floor commercial unit, a finished basement. The VoltMax 40 can serve either one.
Water temperature set to the need
Radiators need hotter water than a radiant floor. The VoltMax setpoint ranges from 50 °F to 200 °F (10 °C to 93 °C), which covers both uses. The included outdoor sensor lets the Schneider Electric controller adjust the water temperature to the weather, and schedules match heating to occupancy hours.
On the output side, SCR solid-state relays vary the heat from 0 to 100%, in addition to relay stages that the controller rotates. Thermo 2000 points out that this modulation limits peak power demand. The manufacturer also describes its boiler as quiet, clean and low maintenance, an advantage when the mechanical room is next to the apartments.
The controller shows alarm codes on a 3 in backlit screen, in French or English. It offers a web page and email alarms through its Ethernet port, and communicates over BACnet IP or MS-TP. A second setpoint makes it possible to add an indirect water heater.
What installation by AirGreen covers
We work in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and on the South Shore, after a free on-site estimate. At 166.7 A on 240 V single phase, the electrical service is the first thing we check. We then inspect the radiators, floor loops and existing piping, and give you a written quote that includes the circulator and expansion tank, which Thermo 2000 does not supply.
Our technicians set the boiler in place with the required clearances (24 in in front, 32 in above, 3 in on the sides and at the back), connect it through its 1 1/2 in NPT connections, pipe the relief valve discharge, mount the outdoor sensor and make the electrical connection. After filling and purging, we set the setpoint, outdoor reset and schedules.
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Thermo 2000 covers the tank for 10 years (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and the electrical and mechanical components for 2 years.
Ask for your estimate
To heat your building’s radiators or floors with a 40 kW VoltMax, ask for a free estimate. The quote is in writing, and financing is available.
From radiators to radiant floors, a single boiler
The VoltMax 40 heats the water of a closed loop. Its setpoint, adjustable from 50 °F to 200 °F, serves radiators as well as radiant floors, and the outdoor sensor adjusts it to the weather.
- Apartment buildings heated by hot water radiators
- Radiant floors in commercial units or additions
- Buildings on 240 V single phase whose electrical service has the needed capacity
- Indirect water heater on the controller’s second setpoint
Specifications
From the manufacturer’s documentation. A value the manufacturer does not publish is not listed.
What to know before installing
- 240 V single-phase, 60 Hz power supply. At 166.7 A, the boiler requires an electrical service able to take it: it is the first thing we check.
- A system that combines radiators and radiant floors often runs loops at different temperatures: we design this during the estimate.
- The circulator and expansion tank are not among the parts supplied by Thermo 2000.
- Clearances: 24 in in front, 32 in above, 3 in on the sides and at the back, none at the floor.
- On this size, the low water cut-off is an option; it is standard above 60 kW.
- Schneider Electric controller with backlit display
- Outdoor temperature sensor
- Control ON/OFF switch
- Control and power fuses and breakers
- SCR relays
- 2 limit controls, one automatic, one manual
- Factory-installed relief valve
- Drain valve

Frequently asked questions
Can the VoltMax 40 feed old radiators?
Yes, if the loop is in good condition. The setpoint goes up to 200 °F (93 °C), and the included outdoor sensor lets the water temperature drop in mild weather. We inspect the system during the free estimate.
What current should be planned for?
Thermo 2000 lists 166.7 A on 240 V single phase for this model. The electrician sizes the breaker and conductors from that value.
Can schedules be programmed?
Yes. The Schneider Electric controller handles schedules in addition to outdoor reset with the sensor. It also accepts a 0-10 Vdc signal if the building has a management system.
Is the boiler noisy?
Thermo 2000 describes it as quiet and clean. Output is modulated by SCR solid-state relays, in addition to relay stages.
What warranty does Thermo 2000 offer?
10 years on the tank (limited warranty, closed-loop heating) and 2 years on electrical and mechanical components, parts and accessories.
