The coil that follows your furnace, even when plans change

A basement being finished, a mechanical room being moved, a furnace laid in the ceiling to free up space: renovations often shake up where the heating system sits. The Arcoaire EVM4X30M17A multipoise evaporator coil keeps every option open. This 2.5-ton R-410A model installs in vertical upflow, vertical downflow or horizontal, and it connects to a 17-1/2 in electric furnace or air handler. We install it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the South Shore and on the North Shore.

What it does and who it is for

An evaporator coil is the indoor part of a central air conditioner. Set against the furnace, it receives refrigerant from the outdoor unit and cools the air the blower pushes through the ducts. The EVM4X30M17A is aimed at homes and units that need 2.5 tons of cooling, a capacity we confirm during the estimate. It pairs with an R-410A air conditioner, with 3/8 in connections for the liquid line and 3/4 in for the suction line. If the unit lies on its side, we take particular care with the condensate drain, which must keep a continuous slope.

How it is built

Arcoaire uses its Power-V design here, with the headers at the top and an all-aluminum microchannel coil; the manufacturer states it delivers the same or better SEER without a larger coil. The thermostatic expansion valve is factory installed. The condensate drain pan is PBT, a plastic that resists corrosion, and the 24-gauge pre-painted steel cabinet is fully insulated. The coil weighs 33.7 lb (15.3 kg) in operation.

Before choosing it, keep in mind that it is limited to air conditioning: Arcoaire states it does not pair with a heat pump. Sold alone, it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. It is available while supplies last.

Installation, step by step

1. Free on-site estimate: position and width of the unit, condition of the ducts, outdoor air conditioner.
2. Written quote specifying the chosen position and the work.
3. Setting the coil, connecting it to the air ducts and the condensate drain.
4. Brazing the refrigerant lines, leak testing and evacuation.
5. Commissioning, with the blower set within the 750 to 1,250 CFM range published by the manufacturer.

Arcoaire offers a 10-year parts limited warranty when the unit is registered on time, and 5 years without registration within 90 days of installation.
