Five tons of cooling for large duct systems

Some homes and spaces need a lot of cooling from a single unit: large glazed areas, high ceilings, several floors connected to the same duct system. The Arcoaire EVM4X60M21A multipoise evaporator coil offers the largest capacity in the EVM4X series we carry: 5 tons on R-410A, in a 21 in cabinet that lines up with an electric furnace or air handler of the same width. AirGreen installs it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the South Shore and on the North Shore.

A coil for larger projects

This size is not chosen by eye. Before recommending it, we assess the building’s actual needs, because an oversized coil adds no extra comfort. When the load justifies it, the EVM4X60M21A pairs with a 5-ton R-410A central air conditioner and connects with a 3/8 in liquid line and a 7/8 in suction line. It installs in vertical upflow, vertical downflow or horizontal, which leaves some latitude in a crowded mechanical room.

What the airflow implies

Arcoaire publishes this coil’s performance between 1,500 and 2,500 CFM. That much airflow calls for a blower able to deliver it and supply and return ducts that are large enough. It is the point we look at most closely during the visit. The coil also weighs 47.6 lb (21.6 kg) in operation: we plan the transport and installation, especially in the horizontal position, and we check the space against the drawing dimensions in the spec sheet.

On the construction side, you get Arcoaire’s Power-V design, with the headers at the top; according to the manufacturer, it delivers the same or better SEER without a larger coil. The microchannel coil is all aluminum, the thermostatic expansion valve is factory installed, the PBT condensate drain pan resists corrosion and the 24-gauge cabinet is fully insulated. The model is limited to air conditioning and does not pair with a heat pump. Sold alone, it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. It is available while supplies last.

Arcoaire offers a 10-year parts limited warranty with timely registration, or 5 years without registration within 90 days of installation.
