Full 5-ton capacity, lined up with a 24-1/2 in furnace

An electric furnace or air handler 24-1/2 in wide calls for a coil of the same width for a clean connection to the ductwork. The Arcoaire EVM4X60M24A multipoise evaporator coil is designed for these wide units: 5 tons of R-410A air conditioning, in a cabinet that lines up edge to edge, whether the unit stands upright or lies on its side. We install it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and on the South Shore.

When to choose the 24-1/2 in version

In the EVM4X series, we offer the 5-ton capacity in two widths. This one suits 24-1/2 in (622 mm) units: with a flush fit, air passes from the furnace to the coil with no reduction or ledge. For a narrower unit, we would offer the EVM4X60M21A instead. In both cases, the capacity is first confirmed by assessing the house or space, because a 5-ton system is only justified when the cooling load is truly high.

Preparing the installation

Three elements need particular attention. Airflow first: Arcoaire publishes this coil’s performance between 1,500 and 2,500 CFM, and both the blower and the ducts must be able to move it. The refrigerant lines next: the R-410A air conditioner connects with 3/8 in for the liquid line and 7/8 in for the suction line. Handling, finally: the coil weighs 44.7 lb (20.3 kg) in operation, which needs planning, especially for a horizontal installation up high.

The coil follows Arcoaire’s Power-V design, with the headers at the top; according to the manufacturer, it delivers the same or better SEER without a larger coil. The microchannel is all aluminum, the thermostatic expansion valve is factory installed, the condensate drain pan is PBT and the 24-gauge cabinet is fully insulated. This model is limited to air conditioning: it does not pair with a heat pump. Sold alone, it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. It is available while supplies last.

Arcoaire warrants parts for 10 years with timely registration, or 5 years without registration within 90 days of installation.
