Quick facts
A 3-ton house, a 17-1/2 in furnace: the coil that bridges the two
Sometimes a house needs 3 tons of cooling while its electric furnace, or its air handler, is only 17-1/2 in wide. The Arcoaire EVM4X36M17A multipoise evaporator coil answers that situation: it offers 3 nominal tons on R-410A in a 17-1/2 in cabinet that lines up with the unit. AirGreen installs this coil in Montreal, Laval and Longueuil, as well as on the North Shore and the South Shore.
What you get
The EVM4X36M17A is a cased V-coil of Power-V design. The headers are grouped at the top, and Arcoaire states that this layout delivers the same or better SEER without a larger coil. The microchannel coil is all aluminum and the thermostatic expansion valve is factory installed. The PBT condensate drain pan resists corrosion, and the 24-gauge pre-painted steel cabinet is fully insulated, with foil-faced R-2.1 insulation. It installs in vertical upflow, vertical downflow or horizontal.
The point to check: airflow
A 3-ton coil needs enough airflow to cool properly without freezing. Arcoaire publishes its performance between 900 and 1,500 CFM. In an existing home, we therefore check that the furnace blower can deliver that airflow and that the supply and return ducts let it through. If the unit is too small for the house, we tell you and present other options in the quote.
Also keep in mind that this model is limited to air conditioning: it does not pair with a heat pump. Sold alone, it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. It is available while supplies last.
What AirGreen does
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. For this coil, our work includes:
- assessing the indoor unit, blower, ductwork and refrigerant lines;
- choosing the installation position and sealing the connection to the ducts;
- connecting the 3/8 in and 3/4 in lines to an R-410A air conditioner, leak testing and evacuation;
- connecting the condensate drain;
- commissioning and setting the blower.
Arcoaire offers a 10-year parts limited warranty if the unit is registered on time, and 5 years if it is not registered within 90 days of installation.

Frequently asked questions
Is a 17-1/2 in cabinet enough for three tons?
Arcoaire rates this model at 3 nominal tons and publishes its performance between 900 and 1,500 CFM. What matters next is the blower and the ductwork: we check that they can deliver that airflow before recommending it.
In which positions can it be installed?
Vertical upflow, vertical downflow or horizontal. We choose the position based on the orientation of your furnace or air handler.
Can the existing refrigerant lines be kept?
Only if they match the 3/8 in (liquid) and 3/4 in (suction) connections and are in good condition. We inspect them during the estimate.
Can it work with a heat pump?
No. The manufacturer limits this model to air conditioning.
Does it qualify for the LogisVert grant?
No. Sold alone, a cooling coil has no efficiency rating of its own and does not qualify.
