The quietest outdoor unit in the series
The C28 9,000, per the brochure. The 24,000 is at 62 dB(A).
01/07The C28 is CanAir’s R-410A wall unit for winter heating. From 9,000 to 24,000 BTU/h, it heats down to -30°C; the 30,000 and 36,000 stop at -15°C, per the brochure. Three sizes have a checked LogisVert amount: $1,200 to $2,544.

Pick a size:
Under 12,000 BTU/h: LogisVert requires an outdoor unit of at least 12,000 BTU/h nominal cooling capacity.

A variable-speed heat pump adjusts its output to what the room needs. As long as the load stays above its minimum, it slows down instead of stopping and restarting. Tap a size to see its range, in cooling and heating, per the CanAir C28 brochure.
Minimum, rated and maximum capacities: CanAir C28 brochure, p. 4. The rated capacity is the one on the label; the range shows how far the compressor goes down and up.
Capacity at -15°C (5°F) per ENERGY STAR, size by size. The C28 30,000 and 36,000 are not in ENERGY STAR and heat down to -15°C only.
Source: ENERGY STAR, capacity at 5°F (-15°C). The C28 30,000 and 36,000 are not in ENERGY STAR.
COP compares the heat delivered with the electricity used. An electric baseboard gives 1 kWh of heat per kWh: that is the baseline. Here is the COP of each C28 at -15°C, at maximum capacity, per the CanAir brochure.
COP at -15°C (5°F): CanAir C28 brochure, p. 4. The electric baseboard is the baseline: all the heat it gives comes from electricity.

The LogisVert guide (version 1.10, September 15, 2026) requires an ENERGY STAR certified heat pump, an outdoor unit of at least 12,000 BTU/h and an application within 9 months of installation. The grant never exceeds 100% of the cost before taxes.
Ranking of the 22 CanAir wall units sold by AirGreen, per the brochures. SEER2 measures cooling efficiency over a season; EER2, on a hot day. The C28 units are in CanAir blue.
In heating efficiency (HSPF2, Region IV), the C28 9,000 scores 11.5. The 4C28 24,000 (13.5) and 9,000 (12.5) are ahead.
The 9,000 is below the 12,000 BTU/h minimum LogisVert requires. The C28 12,000, the next C28 in the ranking (SEER2 25.5), has a $1,200 amount.
SEER2, EER2 and HSPF2: CanAir C22, C28, 4C22 (2025) and 4C28 (2026) brochures. LogisVert threshold: participation guide, version 1.10.
Pick a size, then a fan speed. The needle shows the indoor unit’s sound level published by CanAir; the outdoor unit is shown next to it.
Rule of thumb: 10 dB(A) more is heard as roughly twice as loud. dB(A) is weighted to follow how the ear hears.
Indoor and outdoor sound levels: CanAir C28 brochure, p. 4 (indoor) and p. 5 (outdoor). Lowest figure in the series: 24 dB(A) (9,000, low speed).
Slide the line length and height difference: the tool compares your case with the limits published for each C28. Handy for a condo up high or a head upstairs.
Maximum length and height: CanAir C28 brochure, p. 4. The brochure does not give the precharge; we confirm it in the manual at installation.
R-410A is the refrigerant of the C22 and C28. The 4C28 follows the same idea with R-454B, whose global warming potential (GWP) is about 4.5 times lower.
÷4.5 lower GWP going from R-410A to R-454B
R-454B is rated A2L: low toxicity, mildly flammable. The CanAir 4C22 brochure shows it (“A2L R-454B”, p. 5). It is installed following the rules for that class.
In daily use, nothing: the unit heats and cools the same way. The refrigerant matters mostly for the environment and for the technician who services it.
Global warming potential compares a gas with CO₂ over 100 years. A GWP of 466 means one kilo of R-454B equals 466 kilos of CO₂.
100-year GWP, IPCC Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) values: R-410A 2,088 (half R-32, half R-125); R-454B 466 (68.9% R-32, 31.1% R-1234yf). Refrigerant per series: CanAir brochures.
One family, four roles: two cold limits, two refrigerants.
