This Direct Air heating element adds electric backup heat to the air handler of the Magic Pro central heat pump. It is offered in 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 kW, and each output is meant for specific air handler sizes, shown in the model selection.
Extra heat for the Magic Pro system
Direct Air’s Magic Pro air handler is multi-position, with a variable-speed ECM motor, compatible with 24 V thermostats and RS485 communication. The manufacturer presents it with an optional backup heating element. When the heat pump needs extra heat, the element takes over through the same ducts.
Choosing the right output
- The output depends on the size of your air handler, from DIRM-18MAGICPRO20-AH to DIRM-60MAGICPRO20-AH.
- It is also chosen based on your heating needs and the capacity of your electrical service.
- On its air handler page, Direct Air mentions an optional element up to 20 kW; we confirm the 25 kW with the manufacturer before any order.
Before installation
Note the model number on your air handler’s nameplate. Wire gauge and circuit protection are calculated from the element’s nameplate, and the supply circuit is done by a master electrician.
