The Élios EAHxxEUL series heating element is the electric backup heat for the Central-Elios EAHM multi-position air handler. It covers six nominal outputs, from 5 to 25 kW, at 208-230 V single-phase. According to the manufacturer's drawing, each element carries its own relay and breaker.
The electric complement to the central heat pump
With an EAHM air handler, the central heat pump heats the house through the existing ducts. The element takes over when the heat pump needs extra heat, which makes it a common solution for replacing an electric furnace. The 5, 8 and 10 kW elements heat in one stage; the 15, 20 and 25 kW elements, in two stages.
Outputs listed by air handler size
- 5 kW: EAHMA24, 30 and 36.
- 8 kW: EAHMA24 to 48.
- 10 and 15 kW: EAHMA24 to 60.
- 20 kW: EAHMA36 to 60.
- 25 kW: EAHMA60 only.
Circuits and power supply
The 5, 8 and 10 kW elements connect to a single circuit. The 15 and 20 kW require two and the 25 kW, three, each with its own MCA and maximum overcurrent protection value. At 230 V, the 25 kW draws 100 A in total for 23 kW actual. The values for each size are shown in the table when you select it. Have the capacity of your electrical service confirmed before choosing a high output.

What to know before installing
- Each rating is listed for certain air handler sizes only: check the table for the size you pick.
- The 15 and 20 kW kits have 2 supply circuits and the 25 kW has 3, each with its own protection.
- The 25 kW kit needs up to 133 A total MCA at 230 V: your electrical service must handle it.
- The supply circuit is done by a licensed electrician, with the unit powered off.

Frequently asked questions
Which kit fits my EAHM air handler?
Per the Élios submittals: 5 kW for the EAHMA24 to 36, 8 kW up to the 48, 10 and 15 kW for every size from 24 to 60, 20 kW for 36 to 60 and 25 kW for the 60 only. We pick the rating from a heating load calculation.
How many circuits do I need?
One for the 5, 8 and 10 kW kits, two for the 15 and 20 kW and three for the 25 kW, per the manufacturer’s sheet. Each circuit has its own MCA and max. overcurrent protection.
Can I use a 24 V thermostat?
Élios lists its ST1S42RW1 smart thermostat and its wired controllers for the EAHM. The MI3C1 mini interface also lets you connect a standard 24 V thermostat, with some functions possibly reduced.
Can you install it?
Yes. We fit the kit in the air handler and set up the backup heat with the heat pump; the supply circuit is run by a licensed electrician, everywhere in Greater Montréal.
