Quick facts
Central air conditioning for a small electric furnace, starting at 1.5 tons
Many condos and bungalows in the region are heated by a forced-air electric furnace but have never had central air conditioning. The ductwork, however, is already there. What is missing is an evaporator coil above or below the furnace, and an outdoor unit. The Arcoaire EAA4X18L14A A-coil is the indoor part of that project: 1.5 tons (18,000 BTU/h nominal), R-410A, with a factory-installed thermostatic expansion valve (TXV). It is available while supplies last.
An A-coil for a 14-3/16 in cabinet
According to Arcoaire’s nomenclature, this model is designed for a 14-3/16 in wide cabinet: it matches electric furnaces and air handlers of the same width. It installs vertically, in upflow or downflow. Its main tubes and fins are aluminum, with copper stubs for brazing on site, and it weighs 22.0 lb for shipping. The manufacturer’s brochure declares it compatible with an air conditioner as well as a heat pump.
What "uncased" means for you
The EAA4X18L14A arrives without a cabinet. It fits in the furnace plenum, or in a suitable casing when the existing plenum is not suitable. During the estimate, we measure the plenum and state in the quote whether a casing or transition is needed. That is also when we check the outdoor unit: Arcoaire does not publish a matching list for this coil, and the unit must run on R-410A.
What to know about performance and the grant
A coil sold alone has no efficiency rating of its own. Seasonal performance depends on the combination with the outdoor unit and the furnace. For the same reason, a coil bought alone does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. If you add a heat pump rather than an air conditioner, the same coil also distributes heat in winter, and the electric furnace tops up during deep cold.
Installed by AirGreen
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 (ventilation, refrigeration and electrical). After a free on-site estimate and a written quote, we set the coil in the plenum, braze the 3/8 and 5/8 in refrigerant lines, pressure-test and pull a vacuum, install the condensate drain with its trap, then commission the system. We work in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the South Shore and on the North Shore.

Adding air conditioning to a small electric furnace
The EAA4X18L14A sits in the plenum, above or below an electric furnace or air handler 14-3/16 in wide. Connected to an R-410A outdoor unit, it cools; with a heat pump, it also heats.
- Adding a 1.5-ton central air conditioner to an existing electric furnace
- Condos, bungalows and small dwellings served by ductwork
- Furnaces and air handlers 14-3/16 in wide
- Upflow or downflow installations

- Uncased: it fits in the plenum of the furnace or air handler, or in a suitable casing, not included.
- Designed for a 14-3/16 in wide cabinet, in the vertical position (upflow or downflow).
