Quick facts
Three tons for a 17-1/2 in furnace: the right width the first time
Choosing an evaporator coil is not just choosing a capacity. An A-coil sits in the furnace plenum, and its width must agree with the cabinet’s. The Arcoaire EAA4X36L17A coil offers 3 tons (36,000 BTU/h nominal) on R-410A and is designed, according to the manufacturer’s nomenclature, for a 17-1/2 in wide cabinet. It is available while supplies last.
Why width matters
When the coil and the cabinet have the same width, air from the furnace passes straight through the coil, and the transition in the plenum stays simple. That is why the EAA4X series offers some sizes in more than one width. This model matches electric furnaces and air handlers 17-1/2 in wide. Since it is uncased, it fits in the plenum or in a suitable casing, not included. The spec sheet dimensions, A 23-9/16 in and B 16-5/16 in, help us validate the space during the estimate.
The EAA4X36L17A at a glance
The R-410A thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) is installed at the factory. The main tubes and the fins are aluminum, with copper stubs for brazing on site. The connections measure 3/8 in for the liquid line and 3/4 in for the suction line, and the coil weighs 36.5 lb (17 kg) for shipping. It installs vertically, in upflow or downflow. Arcoaire’s brochure declares it compatible with an air conditioner as well as a heat pump.
In a family home on the South Shore or the North Shore
A 3-ton size often suits two-storey family homes, once the load has been calculated. On the South Shore as on the North Shore, many houses are heated by an electric furnace; adding a central heat pump with this coil provides cooling in summer and much of the heating in winter, with the furnace taking over in deep cold. Remember that a coil sold alone has no efficiency rating and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant, and that Arcoaire does not publish a matching list for this model: we check the outdoor unit before ordering.
What our work includes
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 (ventilation, refrigeration and electrical). After a free estimate and a written quote, we set the coil, braze the refrigerant lines, pressure-test and pull a vacuum, connect the drain with a trap and commission the system. We work in Montreal, Laval and Longueuil, as well as on both shores.
Ask for your free estimate: we measure your furnace and confirm that this 17-1/2 in coil suits it. Financing is available.

What to know before installing
- Available while supplies last. Arcoaire now features the next generation of coils on its website.
- Sold alone: does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. The coil has no efficiency rating of its own; performance depends on the matched outdoor unit and air handler.
- Uncased: it fits in the plenum or in a suitable casing, not included.
- Designed for a 17-1/2 in wide cabinet, in the vertical position only.
- R-410A: the outdoor unit must use the same refrigerant. Arcoaire does not publish a matching list for this model; we check compatibility before ordering.

Frequently asked questions
Why is there more than one 3-ton version?
The EAA4X series offers some sizes in more than one width, to line up with the furnace cabinet. This model is designed for a 17-1/2 in wide cabinet, according to Arcoaire’s nomenclature.
How do I know which width to choose?
We measure your furnace or air handler cabinet during the estimate, as well as the plenum. If the cabinet is 17-1/2 in wide, this model is the right starting point.
Does it work with a heat pump?
Yes. Arcoaire’s brochure declares the series compatible with an air conditioner or a heat pump. The outdoor unit must run on R-410A.
Does the coil come with a cabinet?
No, it is uncased. It fits in the plenum or in a suitable casing, which we include in the quote when needed.
What warranty does the manufacturer offer?
Arcoaire covers parts for 10 years with registration within 90 days, or 5 years without registration, for owner-occupied residential use. Where the law prohibits requiring registration, the 10-year warranty applies automatically.
