A 4-ton coil for 24-1/2 in furnaces, available while supplies last

The widest electric furnaces and air handlers call for a coil to match. The Arcoaire EAA4X48L24A A-coil is designed, according to the manufacturer’s nomenclature, for a 24-1/2 in wide cabinet, with a nominal capacity of 4 tons (48,000 BTU/h) on R-410A. Arcoaire now features the next generation of coils, and this model is available while supplies last. Before reserving it, a few checks are in order.

Who it is for

This coil suits houses equipped with an electric furnace or air handler 24-1/2 in wide that you want to air-condition or turn into a 4-ton central heat pump. Arcoaire’s brochure declares it compatible with an air conditioner as well as a heat pump. It installs vertically, in upflow or downflow, and its R-410A thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) is factory-installed. The main tubes and fins are aluminum, with copper stubs for brazing.

Five checks before reserving an end-of-series coil

1. Your furnace’s cabinet width: this model is designed for 24-1/2 in.
2. The outdoor unit: it must run on R-410A and its capacity must match the 4-ton size. Arcoaire does not publish a matching list for this model.
3. The space in the plenum, using the spec sheet dimensions: A 24-13/16 in and B 23-5/16 in.
4. The casing: the coil is uncased; if it cannot fit in the existing plenum, a suitable casing, not included, is needed.
5. The refrigerant lines: the coil connects with a 3/8 in liquid line and a 7/8 in suction line.

Performance, grant and warranty

Sold alone, a coil has no efficiency rating of its own and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant: performance depends on the matched outdoor unit and furnace. As for the warranty, Arcoaire covers parts for 10 years with registration within 90 days, or 5 years without registration, for owner-occupied residential use; where the law prohibits requiring registration, the 10 years apply automatically.
