Quick facts
Four tons on a 21 in furnace, for large multi-storey houses
In a large multi-storey house with a finished basement, the central system has to cool a lot of air over several levels. The Arcoaire EAA4X48L21A A-coil offers 4 tons (48,000 BTU/h nominal) on R-410A and is designed, according to the manufacturer’s nomenclature, for a 21 in wide cabinet. It sits in the plenum of an electric furnace or air handler and completes an outdoor unit, air conditioner or heat pump. This model is available while supplies last.
What it is
Arcoaire delivers this A-coil without a cabinet: it slides into the furnace plenum, or into a suitable casing, not included. Mounting is vertical, whether the air flows up or down. On the refrigeration side, Arcoaire installs an R-410A TXV at the factory, and the connection is made through 3/8 in (liquid) and 7/8 in (suction) copper stubs; the main tubes and the fins are aluminum. At 49.0 lb (22 kg) shipping weight, it is a substantial coil, which we handle with care in narrow plenums.
A bigger coil does not fix everything
One complaint comes up often in large houses in Longueuil, Laval or on the South Shore: the upper floor stays hot while the basement is cool. Increasing the coil’s capacity does not fix that imbalance if the upper floor’s supply ducts or return air are undersized. During the estimate, we examine the ductwork along with the furnace; if corrections are needed, they appear in the quote, next to the coil.
Winter as well as summer
Arcoaire’s brochure declares this coil compatible with a heat pump. Matched with a central heat pump of the same capacity, it distributes heat for much of the winter, and the electric furnace tops up during deep cold. A coil sold alone, however, has no efficiency rating of its own and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. Arcoaire does not publish a matching list for this model, so we check the R-410A outdoor unit before ordering.
Installation by AirGreen
Our family business has been working in Montreal for more than fifteen years, under RBQ licence 5645-9605-01, which covers ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. A single free visit lets us see the furnace, the plenum, the ductwork and the outdoor unit; the written quote then covers each item. On the day of the work, the coil is set and brazed, the circuit is pressure-tested then evacuated, the drain gets its trap, and the system is started and checked room by room. We serve Montreal and the North Shore, in addition to Laval, Longueuil and the South Shore.
Ask for your free estimate: we assess your house’s furnace, outdoor unit and ductwork. Financing is available.
For large multi-storey houses heated by a 21 in furnace

What to know before installing
- Available while supplies last. Arcoaire now features the next generation of coils on its website.
- Sold alone: does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. The coil has no efficiency rating of its own; performance depends on the matched outdoor unit and air handler.
- Uncased: it fits in the plenum or in a suitable casing, not included.
- Designed for a 21 in wide cabinet, in the vertical position only.
- R-410A: the outdoor unit must use the same refrigerant. Arcoaire does not publish a matching list for this model; we check compatibility before ordering.
- A bigger coil does not fix undersized ductwork: we examine the ducts and return air during the estimate.

Frequently asked questions
My upper floor stays hot in summer: will a 4-ton coil fix that?
Not necessarily. If the upper floor’s supply ducts or return air are undersized, a bigger coil does not change how the air is distributed. We examine the ductwork during the estimate and propose the necessary corrections before choosing the size.
What furnace width is this model designed for?
A 21 in cabinet, according to Arcoaire’s nomenclature. The EAA4X series also offers a 4-ton size in another width; we measure your furnace to choose the right one.
Does it work with a heat pump?
Yes. Arcoaire’s brochure declares the series compatible with an air conditioner or a heat pump. The outdoor unit must run on R-410A.
Does it qualify for the LogisVert grant?
No, not when it is sold alone. If the project also includes a new outdoor unit, the quote specifies whether the complete proposed system qualifies.
What warranty does the manufacturer offer?
Arcoaire covers parts for 10 years with registration within 90 days, or 5 years without registration, for owner-occupied residential use. Where the law prohibits requiring registration, the 10-year warranty applies automatically.
