Quick facts
Connect a heat pump to your ductwork with a 21 in Bosch coil
Many Quebec homes are heated by an electric furnace and ductwork, with no air conditioning or heat pump. The Bosch BMAC3036CNTD is the part that links this ductwork to an outdoor unit: a cased evaporator coil 21 in wide and 20 in high, which Bosch presents as compatible with both air conditioning and heat pumps. AirGreen installs it in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the South Shore and on the North Shore.
What a heat pump compatible coil changes
A cooling-only coil works only in summer. A heat pump compatible coil works all year. In summer, the refrigerant absorbs heat from the air passing through it; in winter, the cycle reverses and the coil releases to the air the heat the outdoor unit collected outside. The electric furnace stays in place and takes over when the heat pump needs backup.
Bosch designed the BMAC3036CNTD for its BOVA 2.0 heat pump and, in its matching tables, pairs it with the BOVA-36HDN1-M20G outdoor unit. The TXV, which Bosch requires at the indoor coil for this match, meters the refrigerant entering the coil according to operating conditions.
From a semi-detached house to a duplex: position sets the airflow
In a Longueuil semi-detached house, the electric furnace often stands upright in the basement and blows upward: the coil sits on top, in upflow, where Bosch publishes a maximum airflow of 1,250 CFM. In a Montreal duplex, the cabinet sometimes lies under a ceiling; horizontally, Bosch lists 1,250 CFM to the right and 1,200 CFM to the left. In downflow, the published maximum drops to 1,050 CFM, a gap we take into account before choosing the installation.
The 21 in width is the other point to check: the cabinet must match the unit it sits on. As for capacity, Bosch does not publish a nominal tonnage for this exact model; the BMAC series covers 2 to 5 tons, and the actual capacity depends on the matched outdoor unit.
What AirGreen does, from survey to start-up
- A free on-site estimate: cabinet measurement, airflow direction, condition of the ductwork and location of the outdoor unit.
- Confirmation of the match with the outdoor unit and of the availability of the coil, which Bosch has discontinued.
- Setting the cabinet, sealing it to the air handler and the ducts, and connecting the condensate drain to the multi-position drain pan.
- Connecting the 3/8 in liquid line and the 3/4 in vapor line, brazing, vacuum and commissioning.
Sold alone, this coil has no efficiency rating of its own and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant. If you are replacing the whole system, we prepare a quote for the complete set.
Next step
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Ask for your free estimate: you get a written quote for your heat pump project, and financing is available.
Moving from an electric furnace alone to a central heat pump
Added on the cabinet of an electric furnace, the BMAC3036CNTD lets a heat pump connect to the existing ductwork: the heat pump heats and cools, and the electric furnace stays as backup. Bosch pairs it with the BOVA-36HDN1-M20G outdoor unit in its matching tables.
- Homes heated by an electric furnace and ductwork
- Adding a Bosch BOVA 2.0 heat pump to an existing system
- Replacing a BMAC3036CNTD coil
- Cabinets 21 in wide

What to know before installing
- Sold alone: not eligible for the LogisVert grant. A coil has no efficiency rating of its own; performance depends on the matched outdoor unit and cabinet.
- In downflow, the published maximum airflow drops to 1,050 CFM: we take this into account when choosing the position.
- Bosch does not publish a nominal tonnage for this exact model: capacity depends on the outdoor unit, and we confirm the match before ordering.
- The 21 in width must match the furnace or air handler: we measure on site.
- Discontinued by Bosch: availability confirmed before installation.

Frequently asked questions
Can I add a heat pump to my electric furnace with this coil?
Yes, if the width and the match are right. Bosch presents the BMAC3036CNTD as compatible with air conditioning and heat pumps, and pairs it with the BOVA-36HDN1-M20G outdoor unit. During the estimate, we check that your cabinet is 21 in wide and that the refrigerant lines are suitable.
Does the coil heat on its own?
No. The outdoor unit of the heat pump collects the heat; the coil transfers it to the air moving through the ducts. Without a heat pump, it is used for air conditioning only.
Why does airflow change with the position?
Bosch publishes a different maximum for each position: 1,250 CFM in upflow and horizontal right, 1,200 CFM in horizontal left and 1,050 CFM in downflow. We choose the position based on the airflow direction of your cabinet and the airflow the house needs.
Which refrigerant lines are needed?
The coil connects with a 3/8 in liquid line and a 3/4 in vapor line. If your current lines do not match, we replace them.
Does it qualify for a grant?
Not when sold alone. A coil has no efficiency rating of its own and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
