AirGreen × YORK

The HH8, designed by YORK, installed by AirGreen.

AirGreen picks the tonnage with you, finds the spot for the outdoor unit and installs it with its JHE air handler.

Top view, to scale: the HH8 and the same-tonnage YH5 LX.

Areas calculated by AirGreen from the dimensions YORK prints (screw heads included). YORK itself claims up to a 30% smaller footprint than traditional equipment. Side discharge needs room at the side: clearances are not in the YORK documents we read, so we check them at the visit.

No ductless use

YORK states that the HH8 is not designed for ductless use: it is part of a ducted system, with an air handler such as the JHE or, as a hybrid system, a gas furnace.

ENERGY STAR Most Efficient

As of October 27, 2026, ENERGY STAR lists all three HH8 matched systems under this designation; the YH5 LX systems do not have it.

More capacity at −15 °C than at −8.3 °C

The HH824 is certified at 18,300 BTU/h at −15 °C and 17,800 at −8.3 °C; the HH860 at 38,500 and 37,000. These are two separate tests, published as they are by ENERGY STAR; the documents we read do not explain the difference.

A COP of 2.14 at −25 °C

For the HH860, NEEP lists a COP of 2.14 at its maximum output at −25 °C, compared with 2.0 at −15 °C from ENERGY STAR: two separate tests. At −25 °C, the unit still delivers more than twice as much heat as the electricity it uses.

05 · LogisVert

LogisVert: the cold-climate rate on all 3 HH8 systems.

The AHRI numbers of all 3 HH8 systems are on Hydro-Québec’s October 26, 2026 list, “homeowner, existing house” profile.

All 3 HH8 systems are ENERGY STAR cold-climate certified: LogisVert pays them $120 per 1,000 BTU/h of capacity at −8 °C, the 17 °F (−8.3 °C) point on the plates. Each size’s amount is on its plate, above.

These amounts apply to the HH8 + JHE pairing on each product page. Keeping a furnace or setting the HH860 to 4 tons: see the FAQ below.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us about the HH8: cold, 4 tons, furnace, sound.

How cold can the HH8 heat?

The YORK documents we read give no minimum operating temperature. NEEP lists its maximum output at −25 °C (−13 °F): 11,800 to 25,400 BTU/h depending on size; nothing is published below that point, so we size the backup heat at the visit. Montreal’s cold in figures is on the YORK central systems page.

Does the 5-ton HH8 suit a house that needs 4 tons?

YORK sells the HH860 for 4 and 5 tons: a capacity switch sets the unit. Our product page, its AHRI number and its LogisVert amount are for the 5-ton setting; at 4 tons, eligibility, the pairing and the amount are confirmed on the quote.

Can I keep a gas furnace with the HH8?

Yes, according to YORK, even a furnace of another brand. YORK’s HH8 sell sheet suggests the HH8 with an air handler in milder climates, and with a gas furnace as a hybrid system in colder climates. The HH8 is then no longer the HH8 + JHE pairing on our product pages: its LogisVert eligibility and amount are confirmed on the quote. Gas work goes to a partner holding the proper RBQ licence.

Is the HH8 quiet?

YORK claims “as low as 54 dBA” for the HH8, with no level by size and no test conditions in the documents we read. So we give no figure by tonnage.

HH8 or YH5 LX at the same tonnage?

At 2, 3 and 5 tons, the HH8 delivers more heating capacity at −15 °C and gets a higher LogisVert amount; each plate above shows the difference. Our catalogue also has the YH5 LX at 1.5 and 4 tons, with top discharge and a two-stage compressor from 2 tons up. The full comparison is on the YORK central systems page.
