Galvanized chassis, powder coat

Protected coil

Extruded louver coil guard; aluminum fins mechanically bonded to copper tubing.

Protected compressor

Internal high-pressure relief valve and temperature sensor; system high- and low-pressure switches.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us about the YH5 LX.

Does the 1.5-ton YH5 have two stages?

No. The YH518 has a single-stage rotary compressor and a factory-installed hard-start kit; YORK keeps two-stage operation for models of 2 tons and up.

How far can the YH518 sit from the house?

YORK’s guide limits rotary-compressor models to 100 ft of equivalent piping, with no exceptions. For the other tonnages, the maximum length is not published in the guide.

Is the YH5 LX cold-climate certified?

No: ENERGY STAR certifies it without the cold-climate mention, and NEEP does not list it. At −15 °C its pairings keep 49 to 55% of their certified 8.3 °C capacity. For deep cold, see the HH8.

Why choose the YH5 at 4 tons?

Because it is our only 4-ton YORK split central heat pump: the YH548, paired with the JHE48C5CG2SS1, certified at 47,000 BTU/h cooling and 30,400 BTU/h at −8.3 °C.

Is the YH5 loud?

YORK claims “as low as 69 dBA” in its technical guide, with no per-model level or test conditions. So we give no figure by tonnage.
