Hot-water radiators are still part of many homes in Montreal and Longueuil. When the old electric boiler reaches the end of its life, the Conforto AT0824 offers a straightforward replacement: 8 kW at 240 V, or 27,300 BTU/h according to the manufacturer, in a cabinet that mounts on the wall.

It also suits smaller new projects: a bungalow getting a radiant floor in the basement, a condo with radiators, an addition tied into an existing loop. Conforto designs it for low-temperature radiant heating as well as high-temperature hot-water baseboards.

What it changes day to day

The AT0824 heats with two 4,000 W elements, in two stages. In mild weather, a single element is often enough; the boiler adds the second when the loop calls for more. It also alternates which element starts first, so the two take turns.

An immersion sensor at the heat exchanger outlet controls the stages and prevents short cycling. If you add an indirect water heater, the controller manages a separate domestic hot-water setpoint and gives it priority: the shower comes before room heating while the tank gets back to temperature. A load-management input also lets the electricity provider control the unit.

How it fits your home

Electrically, the AT0824 needs a dedicated 240 V single-phase circuit, with a minimum ampacity of 49.2 A and maximum protection of 50 A. On the water side, it connects with 1 1/4 in NPT fittings and requires a minimum flow of 2.7 gpm (for a 20 °F ΔT). It weighs about 70 lb (32 kg) as shipped. The 30 psi relief valve and the temperature and pressure gauge are included.
