Who the AT1644 is for
A multi-storey Montreal house with radiators in every room, a South Shore cottage whose basement and ground floor sit on a radiant floor: these homes need more heat than a condo or an addition. The Conforto AT1644 answers with 16 kW at 240 V, or 54,600 BTU/h according to the manufacturer, in a wall-mounted format.
Its four 4,000 W elements come on one by one, in four stages, with element rotation. The boiler keeps a gradual response: one element in mild weather, all four in deep cold. An immersion sensor at the heat exchanger outlet prevents short cycling.
In the AT series, only the AT2045 and the AT2446 go further as a single boiler; beyond that, Conforto offers systems of two boilers installed in parallel. The AT1644 therefore holds a pivotal place for large homes.
Electricity first, water next
At this output, the electrical service often decides the project. Conforto lists a minimum circuit ampacity of 90.8 A and maximum protection of 100 A, at 240 V single phase. Before recommending the AT1644, we therefore look at your panel and everything already connected to it, then put it in black and white in the quote.
On the water side, the boiler connects with 1 1/4 in NPT fittings and requires a minimum flow of 5.5 gpm for a 20 °F ΔT. The controller accepts a flow switch and a low-water device, includes freeze protection and shows its values on a 3-character LED display. It also manages a separate domestic hot-water setpoint, with priority, if you add an indirect water heater, and a load-management input for the electricity provider.
Being wall-mounted, it weighs about 70 lb (32 kg) as shipped, which leaves the floor free for the water heater and piping.

At 16 kW and 240 V, the AT1644 sits in the upper part of the AT series as a single boiler. It supplies radiators, hot-water baseboards or a radiant floor, and can manage an indirect water heater.

What to know before installing
- 240 V single-phase supply: minimum circuit ampacity of 90.8 A and maximum protection of 100 A, per Conforto. The home’s electrical service must be able to take it; we check it during the estimate.
- Minimum flow of 5.5 gpm through the boiler (20 °F ΔT).
- No modulation: the boiler works in stages, and the manufacturer’s documents do not mention an outdoor sensor.
- The indirect water heater is sold separately; the quote lists the circulator and the other loop components.
- Conforto limited lifetime warranty: indoor residential use in Canada, yearly maintenance required, labour and shipping excluded.

Is my electrical service large enough?
That depends on what is already connected to your panel. The AT1644 alone needs a 240 V single-phase circuit with a minimum ampacity of 90.8 A and maximum protection of 100 A. We review it during the free estimate and state it in the quote.
How do the four stages work?
Each stage is one 4,000 W element. The boiler turns them on one by one as demand calls for them and alternates the one that starts first. It does not modulate its output.
What water flow should be planned?
Conforto requires at least 5.5 gpm through the boiler for a 20 °F ΔT. The circulator and piping are chosen accordingly.
Can an indirect water heater be connected?
Yes. The controller manages a separate domestic hot-water setpoint and gives priority to the indirect water heater, sold separately.
What is the warranty?
Conforto offers a limited lifetime warranty: 5 years on the heat exchanger and the components installed by the manufacturer (section A), then the heat exchanger at no charge for the first 20 years and prorated after that. Indoor residential use in Canada (commercial use: 2 years on parts, 10 years on the heat exchanger). Yearly maintenance required.
