The Conforto AT2446 is the largest single boiler of the AT series: 24 kW at 240 V, or 82,000 BTU/h according to the manufacturer. It still keeps the same wall-mounted cabinet as the other models in the series, about 70 lb (32 kg) as shipped, with 1 1/4 in NPT water connections. For a large house or a small building, that is a lot of heat in little wall space.

Its four 6,000 W elements come on in four stages, with element rotation. An immersion sensor at the heat exchanger outlet controls the stages and prevents short cycling. The controller shows its values on 3 characters, handles freeze protection and a domestic hot-water setpoint with priority for an indirect water heater.

Which buildings it suits

Think of a large Longueuil house heated by radiators on three levels, a Montreal plex whose units share a hot-water loop, or a South Shore commercial space heated by a radiant floor. Conforto also covers commercial use in its warranty, with 2 years on parts and 10 years on the heat exchanger, while the limited lifetime warranty covers indoor residential use in Canada.

What to plan for

A boiler this size is planned from the electrical service. Conforto lists an element current of 100.0 A, a minimum circuit ampacity of 132.5 A and maximum protection of 150 A, at 240 V single phase. The loop, for its part, must supply at least 8.2 gpm to the boiler for a 20 °F ΔT.

The boiler does not modulate and the documents do not mention an outdoor sensor: the heating setpoint is therefore set to suit your emitters, radiators or floor, and we adjust it at commissioning.
