A furnace designed for a complete system
With an ordinary electric furnace, the heat pump and the elements take turns: one heats, then the other. The Dettson Suprême Modulante SUP18-M240V12 was designed for Dettson’s Right-Sized® system, in combination with its heat pumps, including the Alizé for modulating cooling. With a communicating system and a coil on the return, the elements can heat at the same time as the heat pump.
With a two-stage or modulating heat pump, backup is automatic through two modes that Dettson calls CALME and FUSION, via the K03081 interface. Everything is driven by a demand from 5 to 100 %, sent by a modulating or communicating thermostat.
Dettson’s figures
The furnace delivers up to 18 kW at 240 V, or 13.5 kW and 46,130 BTU/h at 208 V. Its solid-state control modulates the element output from 0 to 100 %. The 1/2 HP ECM motor moves the air; with Smart Duct® small ducts, Dettson publishes a maximum airflow of 1,000 CFM and maximum cooling of 2.5 tons. For conventional ducts, the sheet and the manual do not agree: we confirm the values with you before choosing the coil.
Which home it suits
This model is for homeowners who are investing in a central heat pump and want gradual backup heat for cold days. Whether you are in Montreal, Laval or on the South Shore, we start with the heating load calculation: that is what confirms whether 18 kW is the right size.
The furnace is also compatible with Dettson’s Smart Duct® small ducts, an option worth considering when the existing ductwork has to be redone or there is no room for conventional ducts.
On the electrical side, Dettson publishes a 94.7 A ampacity and a 100 A maximum breaker at 240 V. The furnace is multi-position and approved for zero clearance; it is 36 1/2 in high and 22 in deep.
Our installation
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years. Our RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 covers ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work, so we can install the furnace, the heat pump and their control wiring. Our work includes:
- the free on-site estimate and a written quote;
- installing the furnace and the electrical circuit;
- placing the coil on the return, a condition for simultaneous operation;
- connecting the modulating or communicating thermostat;
- setting up the interface with the heat pump, then commissioning.

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- Simultaneous operation with the heat pump requires a communicating system and a coil on the return.
- Dedicated circuit: 100 A maximum breaker at 240 V (90 A at 208 V) and 94.7 A ampacity at 240 V.
- For conventional ducts, Dettson’s sheet and manual do not give the same airflow or the same maximum cooling: we confirm these values before matching a coil.
- The coil and the heat pump are not included.
- In downflow, the DFB-SUP base may be required depending on the type of floor.

What is the Right-Sized® system?
It is the name Dettson gives to the combination of the Suprême Modulante with its heat pumps, including the Alizé for modulating cooling.
Can the elements and the heat pump heat at the same time?
Yes, with a communicating system and a coil on the return. With a two-stage or modulating heat pump, backup is automatic through the CALME and FUSION modes, via the K03081 interface.
Is a special thermostat needed?
Yes: a modulating thermostat (V/W2, C, R, G, Y1, Y2, O, DH) or a communicating thermostat connected with an RJ11 cable. It sends the 5 to 100 % demand.
What electrical circuit should I plan for?
A 100 A maximum breaker at 240 V (90 A at 208 V). Dettson publishes a 94.7 A ampacity and a 78.1 A total current at 240 V.
Does it qualify for a grant?
No. Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
