Quick facts
Modulating heat that works with small ducts
A 23 kW furnace that meters its heat
The Dettson Suprême Modulante SUP23-M240V12 is an electric furnace with elements rated 23 kW at 240 V (17.3 kW at 208 V). Its solid-state control modulates output from 0 to 100%, and the thermostat, modulating or communicating, sends it a demand that ranges from 5 to 100%. The house therefore receives the amount of heat it calls for, without the back-and-forth of a furnace that runs all-or-nothing. The blower is driven by a 1/2 HP ECM motor, and a control interface lets the whole unit be adjusted.
Designed for Smart Duct® small ducts
What sets this model apart is its compatibility with Dettson’s Smart Duct® small ducts. With this type of system, the manufacturer publishes a maximum airflow of 1,000 CFM and cooling of up to 2.5 tons. It is an interesting route for an existing house where it would be hard to run large ducts through finished walls and floors, for example a townhouse or a renovated two-storey home.
The furnace also installs on conventional ducts; in that case, we confirm the allowable cooling capacity in Dettson’s documentation before choosing the coil. It is multi-position (upflow, downflow, horizontal), can be suspended and is approved for zero clearance, mobile homes and copper or aluminum wire.
With a Dettson heat pump
Dettson presents the Suprême Modulante as the base of its Right-Sized® system, paired with its central heat pumps. In a communicating system, with the coil on the return side, the heat pump and the elements can heat at the same time. With a 2-stage or modulating heat pump, the furnace takes over automatically using the CALME and FUSION modes; the K03081 interface links the two units.
How AirGreen carries out the project
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. For a small-duct project, planning matters as much as the equipment:
- free on-site estimate, with a heating calculation and mapping of the duct routes;
- panel check: total current of 98.8 A at 240 V, 125 A maximum breaker;
- written quote specifying the duct system, the thermostat and, where applicable, the heat pump;
- installation, electrical and air-side connections, thermostat programming;
- commissioning and a walk-through of the control interface.
An electric furnace sold alone is not a heat pump and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.

Modulating heat for a small-duct system
The SUP23-M240V12 modulates its element output from 0 to 100% and moves air with a 1/2 HP ECM motor. Dettson declares it compatible with Smart Duct® small ducts, for which it publishes 1,000 CFM and cooling of up to 2.5 tons.
- Homes moving to a Smart Duct® small-duct system
- Renovations where large ducts are hard to run
- Right-Sized® systems with a Dettson central heat pump
- Replacing an electric furnace with a modulating model
Specifications

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- The 1,000 CFM and 2.5-ton values apply to Smart Duct® small ducts; with conventional ducts, the capacity is confirmed in Dettson’s documentation before choosing the coil.
- Dedicated circuit: total current of 98.8 A at 240 V (86.3 A at 208 V), ampacity of 119.3 A (104.5 A at 208 V), 125 A maximum breaker.
- A modulating thermostat (V/W2, C, R, G, Y1, Y2, O, DH terminals) or a communicating one (1, 2, R, C terminals, RJ11 cable) is required for modulation.
- Simultaneous operation with a heat pump: communicating system and coil on the return; interface K03081.

Frequently asked questions
What does Smart Duct® compatibility change?
Dettson declares the furnace compatible with its Smart Duct® small ducts. In that setup, it publishes a maximum airflow of 1,000 CFM and cooling of up to 2.5 tons. It is an option to consider when large ducts are hard to run.
And with conventional ducts?
The furnace also installs on a conventional duct system. The allowable cooling capacity in that case is confirmed in Dettson’s documentation; we validate it before choosing the coil.
How does it work with a heat pump?
In a communicating system, with the coil on the return, the heat pump and the elements can heat at the same time. With a 2-stage or modulating heat pump, the furnace takes over automatically (CALME and FUSION modes). Dettson presents this furnace as the base of its Right-Sized® system.
Which thermostat is needed?
A modulating thermostat (V/W2, C, R, G with Y1, Y2, O and DH) or a communicating one (1, 2, R, C, RJ11 cable). The demand sent to the furnace ranges from 5 to 100%.
Does it qualify for a grant?
Not on its own. An electric furnace is not a heat pump; it does not qualify for LogisVert.
