Quick facts
A 23 kW modulating furnace that talks to your heat pump
Two ways to control it
The Dettson Suprême Modulante SUP23-M240V20 is not a furnace you connect to just any thermostat. It is controlled in two ways. With a modulating thermostat, connected to the V/W2, C, R and G terminals (plus Y1, Y2, O and DH), it receives a 5 to 100% PWM signal. With a communicating thermostat, linked to the 1, 2, R and C terminals by an RJ11 cable, the demand travels by communicating protocol, again from 5 to 100%. In both cases, its solid-state control adjusts element output from 0 to 100%: 23 kW at most at 240 V, or 17.3 kW at 208 V.
Air is pushed through the ducts by a 1 HP ECM motor with a 12 x 9 wheel, and a control interface lets the whole unit be adjusted.
Heat pump first, elements as backup
Dettson presents the Suprême Modulante as the heart of its Right-Sized® system, with its central heat pumps, including the Alizé for modulating cooling. In a communicating system, with the coil on the return side, the heat pump and the elements can heat at the same time. With a 2-stage or modulating heat pump, the furnace takes over automatically using the CALME and FUSION modes. For a suburban home already heated by a central heat pump, it is a way to keep the heat pump working as long as possible while having electric backup ready for cold snaps.
Installation and electricity
The furnace is multi-position: upflow, downflow (on the DFB-SUP base when the floor is combustible) or horizontal, and it can be suspended. It accepts conventional ducts as well as Smart Duct® small ducts. It connects on 2-wire 240/208 V; Dettson lists a total current of 101.7 A at 240 V and a 125 A maximum breaker. The allowable cooling capacity depends on the type of ducts: we confirm it in the manufacturer’s documentation before choosing the coil.
What we do for you
AirGreen, a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. We do the free on-site estimate, check the existing or planned heat pump and the electrical panel, then give you a written quote. Our technicians install the furnace, connect it to the ducts and the dedicated circuit, wire the modulating or communicating thermostat, commission the system and explain the interface settings.
An electric furnace sold alone is not a heat pump and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
Ask for your free estimate
In Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore, we meet you for a free estimate and give you a written quote. Financing is available.
A modulating furnace that works hand in hand with the heat pump
The SUP23-M240V20 modulates its elements from 0 to 100% according to the thermostat demand and moves air with a 1 HP ECM motor. In a communicating system, it can heat at the same time as a central heat pump.
- Systems with a 2-stage or modulating central heat pump
- Homes with a communicating thermostat, or planning to install one
- Replacing an electric furnace with a modulating model
- Conventional ductwork or Smart Duct® small ducts
Specifications
From the manufacturer’s documentation. A value the manufacturer does not publish is not listed.
What to know before installing
- An electric furnace sold alone is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- Modulation requires a modulating thermostat (V/W2, C, R, G, Y1, Y2, O, DH terminals) or a communicating one (1, 2, R, C terminals, RJ11 cable).
- Simultaneous operation with the heat pump: communicating system and coil on the return only; interface K03081.
- Total current of 101.7 A at 240 V (89.6 A at 208 V), ampacity of 122.7 A (108.3 A at 208 V), 125 A maximum breaker on a dedicated circuit.
- The allowable cooling capacity depends on the type of ducts: we confirm it against Dettson’s documentation before choosing the coil.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a modulating and a communicating thermostat?
Both drive the modulation. The modulating thermostat connects to the V/W2, C, R, G terminals (with Y1, Y2, O and DH) and sends a 5 to 100% PWM signal. The communicating thermostat connects to the 1, 2, R and C terminals, with an RJ11 cable, and sends a 5 to 100% demand by communicating protocol.
Can the heat pump and the furnace heat at the same time?
Yes, in a communicating system, with the coil installed on the return side. With a 2-stage or modulating heat pump, the furnace also takes over automatically using the CALME and FUSION modes.
What cooling can be connected to it?
The allowable capacity depends on the type of ducts, conventional or Smart Duct®. We confirm it in Dettson’s documentation before choosing the coil or the heat pump.
Is my electrical service enough?
Dettson lists a total current of 101.7 A at 240 V and a 125 A maximum breaker. We check your panel capacity during the free estimate.
Does it qualify for LogisVert?
No. Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump and does not qualify.
