Quick facts
20 kW of modulated heat, set as close as possible to your needs
Plenty of output that knows how to stay in the background
A 20 kW furnace is justified in a large home by the coldest days of winter. The rest of the time, that output is not needed. The Dettson Suprême Modulante SUP20-M240V12 solves this paradox: its solid-state control varies the element output from 0 to 100 %, based on a 5 to 100 % demand sent by the thermostat. It delivers up to 20 kW at 240 V, or 15 kW and 51,256 BTU/h at 208 V, and moves air with a 1/2 HP ECM motor.
The thermostat, at the heart of the system
To benefit from modulation, you need a thermostat that speaks the same language as the furnace. Dettson provides for two types. The modulating thermostat connects to the V/W2, C, R, G, Y1, Y2, O and DH terminals and sends a PWM signal. The communicating thermostat uses terminals 1, 2, R and C with an RJ11 cable. It is this second choice that, with a coil on the return, lets the heat pump and the elements heat at the same time, in Dettson’s Right-Sized® system. With a two-stage or modulating heat pump, backup is automatic through the CALME and FUSION modes, via the K03081 interface.
A control interface then lets you set up the whole unit, which we do at commissioning.
In a Greater Montreal home
This model suits large ducted homes in Montreal, Laval or on the South Shore whose heat-loss calculation comes to 20 kW. The electrical circuit is planned at the quote stage: Dettson calls for a 125 A maximum breaker at 240 V and publishes a 103.2 A ampacity. The furnace is multi-position, approved for zero clearance, and compatible with Smart Duct® small ducts; in that case, Dettson publishes 1,000 CFM and 2.5 tons of cooling at maximum. For conventional ducts, the sheet and the manual differ: we confirm the values before choosing the coil.
What AirGreen’s installation covers
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. For this modulating furnace, we provide:
- the free estimate, with the load calculation and a panel check;
- a written quote that specifies the recommended thermostat;
- setting the unit, the electrical connection and the duct connections;
- wiring the thermostat, setting up the interface and commissioning.
We also work in Longueuil and on the North Shore.
Let’s talk about your comfort
Ask for a free estimate: we help you choose between a modulating and a communicating thermostat and give you a written quote. Financing is available.
Full output when needed, and only what is needed the rest of the time
The SUP20-M240V12 modulates its 20 kW from 0 to 100 % with a solid-state control. The thermostat sends it a demand from 5 to 100 %, and a control interface lets you set up the whole unit.
- Large ducted homes that want modulated central electric heat
- Dettson heat-pump projects with a communicating thermostat (Right-Sized® system)
- Small-duct Smart Duct® systems
- Replacing a 20 kW electric furnace
Specifications

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- Large dedicated circuit: 125 A maximum breaker at 240 V (90 A at 208 V) and 103.2 A ampacity at 240 V according to Dettson. Your electrical service capacity must be checked.
- Modulation requires a modulating or communicating thermostat; simultaneous operation with a heat pump requires a communicating system.
- For conventional ducts, Dettson’s sheet and manual do not give the same airflow or the same maximum cooling: we confirm these values before matching a coil.
- The air-conditioning or heat-pump coil is not included.
- In downflow, the DFB-SUP base may be required depending on the type of floor.

Frequently asked questions
Modulating or communicating thermostat: which one to choose?
Both drive the modulation. The modulating thermostat connects to the V/W2, C, R, G, Y1, Y2, O and DH terminals; the communicating thermostat uses terminals 1, 2, R and C with an RJ11 cable. If you want the heat pump and the elements to heat together, a communicating system is required.
How do I know whether 20 kW suits my home?
Through a heat-loss calculation done on site during the free estimate. The Suprême Modulante also comes in 18 and 23 kW: we recommend the size that matches the result.
What electrical circuit is needed?
A 125 A maximum breaker at 240 V (90 A at 208 V). Dettson publishes a 103.2 A ampacity and an 85.1 A total current at 240 V.
Can air conditioning be added?
Yes. With Smart Duct® small ducts, Dettson publishes a maximum of 2.5 tons and 1,000 CFM. For conventional ducts, the sheet and the manual differ: we confirm the capacity before choosing the coil.
Does it qualify for a grant?
No. Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
