Quick facts
Electric heat that adjusts its output instead of switching on and off
A modulating furnace for steady comfort
The Dettson Suprême Modulante SUP20-M240V20 is an electric furnace with elements for homes that have ductwork. Its solid-state control varies element output from 0 to 100%, according to the signal sent by the thermostat. Rather than heating at full power and then stopping, it supplies the heat the house is asking for at that moment. A 1 HP ECM motor moves air through the ducts, and a control interface lets the whole unit be adjusted.
At 20 kW and 240 V, it is aimed at homes whose heat-loss calculation lands at that level. Depending on insulation and the volume to heat, that can be a renovated bungalow, a mid-sized two-storey house or a plex unit with its own ductwork. The right size is always confirmed on site before ordering.
Designed to work with a heat pump
Dettson presents the Suprême Modulante as the base of its Right-Sized® system, paired with its central heat pumps, including the Alizé for modulating cooling. In a communicating system, with the coil on the return side, the heat pump and the elements can heat at the same time. With a 2-stage or modulating heat pump, the furnace takes over automatically using the CALME and FUSION modes. The elements then become the backup heat for the coldest days, and the heat pump does most of the work the rest of the time.
The furnace also accepts Smart Duct® small ducts, a useful option when running large ducts is hard in a finished house. It installs upflow, downflow or horizontal, and it can be suspended. Dettson approves it for zero clearance, mobile homes and copper or aluminum wire.
About the electrical supply
A furnace of this output needs a properly sized dedicated circuit. Dettson lists a total current of 88.0 A at 240 V and a 125 A maximum breaker. In buildings supplied at 208 V, output drops to 15 kW and the maximum breaker to 100 A: we check this before confirming the size, so you do not end up with a furnace that heats less than planned.
What AirGreen’s installation covers
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 for ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. We handle the project from start to finish:
- free on-site estimate, checking the heating need, the ductwork and the electrical service;
- detailed written quote;
- removal of the old furnace and placement of the new one in the position that suits the room;
- electrical connection on a dedicated circuit and connection to the ducts;
- installation and setup of a modulating or communicating thermostat;
- commissioning and a walk-through of the interface settings.

Central electric heating that adjusts to demand
The SUP20-M240V20 heats air with electric elements and sends it through the ductwork. Its output varies from 0 to 100% according to the thermostat signal, and Dettson designed it to work with its central heat pumps.
- Replacing an old furnace in a home with ductwork
- Homes whose heat-loss calculation comes out around 20 kW
- Projects adding a Dettson central heat pump (Right-Sized® system)
- Small-duct Smart Duct® systems
- Buildings supplied at 208 V, where the furnace delivers 15 kW

What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- Dedicated circuit: total current of 88.0 A at 240 V (77.8 A at 208 V), ampacity of 106.5 A at 240 V (94.3 A at 208 V), maximum breaker of 125 A at 240 V and 100 A at 208 V.
- At 208 V, output drops to 15 kW (51,256 BTU/h): the building voltage is checked before choosing the size.
- Plan for a modulating thermostat (V/W2, C, R, G, Y1, Y2, O, DH terminals) or a communicating one (1, 2, R, C terminals, RJ11 cable).
- For simultaneous operation with a heat pump, the coil goes on the return side and the system must be communicating; heat pump interface K03081.

Frequently asked questions
Does the SUP20-M240V20 work with a heat pump?
Yes. Dettson presents it as the base of its Right-Sized® system with its heat pumps. In a communicating system, with the coil on the return side, the heat pump and the elements can heat at the same time; with a 2-stage or modulating heat pump, the furnace takes over automatically (CALME and FUSION modes).
What changes with a 208 V supply?
The furnace runs at 240 V or 208 V. At 208 V, Dettson lists 15 kW (51,256 BTU/h) and a 100 A maximum breaker. We check the voltage and panel capacity during the estimate.
Which thermostat is needed?
A modulating thermostat (V/W2, C, R, G terminals with Y1, Y2, O and DH) or a communicating thermostat connected by RJ11 cable (1, 2, R, C terminals). The thermostat is what drives the output modulation.
Does it qualify for a grant?
Not on its own: an electric furnace is not a heat pump and does not qualify for LogisVert. If you are adding a central heat pump, ask us for a quote on the complete system.
Can it be installed horizontally?
Yes. Dettson approves it for upflow, downflow (on the DFB-SUP base if the floor is combustible) and horizontal, left or right, and it can be suspended. Zero clearance helps in a tight mechanical room.
