Quick facts
Three tons of cooling in a compact ADP cabinet
A coil for narrow mechanical rooms
In a townhouse or semi-detached home, the electric furnace often sits in a narrow corner of the basement, between the water heater and a wall. Adding a 3-ton coil in that space calls for a cabinet that stays compact. ADP’s HE32136C175B1622AP fits a coil with a 3-ton (36,000 BTU/h) nominal size into an embossed cabinet 17.5 in wide, 16.5 in high and 20.5 in deep.
It connects to an electric furnace or air handler of the same width and becomes the indoor part of a central air conditioner or central heat pump; ADP states its HE coils are compatible with both uses. Its multi-position design also allows horizontal installation, to the left or right, when the unit lies in the ceiling.
How we install it
Everything starts with a free visit. We measure the unit and the mechanical room, check access (the coil weighs 46 lb) and confirm the match with the 3-ton outdoor unit. Because metering is by piston, we check that the orifice suits that unit. If the unit’s width does not match the 17.5 in cabinet, we plan a transition or offer another HE coil. You then receive a written quote.
On installation day, our technicians set the coil in the chosen position, braze the copper connections, including the 3/4 in ODF suction, connect the drain pan and commission the system. Before leaving, they check operation in cooling and, with a heat pump, in heating. The coil ships in a left-hand configuration (code 22) and converts on site; for a downflow unit, a configuration not clearly confirmed for this model, we validate with ADP first.
The specifications ADP publishes
- E32 copper slab, piston metering on R-410A.
- UV-resistant, 450°F polymer drain pan with Microban antimicrobial additive.
- Helium leak test and 500 psi air pressure test at the factory.
- 5-year limited parts warranty, extendable to 10 years under ADP’s conditions; labour is not covered by the manufacturer.
A coil sold alone has no efficiency rating of its own and is not eligible for the LogisVert grant: performance depends on the outdoor unit and indoor unit it is matched with.

What to know before installing
- Sold alone: not eligible for the LogisVert grant. The coil has no efficiency rating of its own; performance depends on the outdoor unit and indoor unit it is matched with.
- Piston metering: we check that the orifice suits the 3-ton outdoor unit before commissioning.
- Upflow or horizontal according to ADP; downflow is not clearly confirmed for this model and is validated with the manufacturer before ordering.
- The coil weighs 46 lb and is 20.5 in deep: we check access and clearance in the mechanical room.
- The outdoor unit, refrigerant lines and indoor unit are not included.

Frequently asked questions
Is a 17.5 in cabinet suitable for a 3-ton system?
ADP builds this model at a 3-ton (36,000 BTU/h) nominal size in a 17.5 in wide cabinet. Actual performance depends on the outdoor unit and the indoor unit’s airflow: we check both before confirming the choice.
Does the coil come with its cabinet?
Yes. It ships in a 16.5 x 17.5 x 20.5 in (H x W x D) embossed cabinet, ready to connect to the unit and the ductwork.
In which positions can it be installed?
ADP designs it for upflow or horizontal installation to the left or right. It ships in a left-hand configuration (code 22) and converts on site. For downflow, we validate with the manufacturer.
Can it be used with a central heat pump?
Yes, ADP states that HE coils are compatible with air conditioning and heat pumps. Because metering is by piston, we check that the orifice suits the outdoor unit.
What does the ADP warranty not cover?
ADP’s limited warranty covers the coil’s parts for 5 years from installation, extendable to 10 years under its conditions. Labour, refrigerant, the cabinet and wiring are excluded.
