Who it is for
ADP’s HE36160C210B2522AP is an evaporator A-coil with a 5-ton nominal size, or 60,000 BTU/h. It is aimed at large single-family homes, enlarged residences and small commercial spaces whose ductwork serves a large area. It connects to a 21 in wide electric furnace or air handler and forms the indoor part of a central air conditioner or central heat pump; ADP states its HE coils are compatible with both uses.
Choosing a 5-ton coil always goes together with the outdoor unit: the two must form a coherent set, and ADP does not name a specific model. We therefore confirm the match before any order.
What the size changes at installation
A coil of this capacity calls for a few precautions that we build into the quote from the start.
- The suction line. The connection is 7/8 in ODF. If the existing refrigerant lines are a different size, we plan for adapting or replacing them.
- The weight. The coil weighs 64 lb. Lying horizontally, in a basement ceiling for example, it must be firmly supported.
- The height. The embossed cabinet is 25.5 in high, 21.0 in wide and 20.5 in deep: the space under the main duct must allow for it.
- The piston. Metering is by piston on R-410A; we check that it suits the chosen 5-ton outdoor unit.
The model is multi-position: upflow, or horizontal to the left or right, field convertible from the original left-hand configuration (code 22). For a downflow unit, a configuration ADP’s documentation does not clearly confirm for this model, we validate with the manufacturer before ordering.
Construction
ADP uses an E36 copper slab with brazed connections, a UV-resistant, 450°F polymer drain pan treated with Microban antimicrobial additive, and puts the coil through a helium leak test and a 500 psi air pressure test. The manufacturer’s limited warranty covers parts for 5 years from installation, extendable to 10 years under its conditions; labour is not part of it.
Sold alone, the coil has no efficiency rating of its own and is not eligible for the LogisVert grant.
