RTU brochures (English of Aug. 2026, French of Sept. 4, 2026), submittals (Aug. 20, 2026), installation manual (Aug. 28, 2026).

02 · Roof or ground

On the roof or on the ground: two installation methods, seven steps each.

The same cabinet connects from below (on a roof curb) or from the side (on a pad). Pick one: the manual’s steps show, with who does what.

Installation

On a roof curb, ducts from below

  1. Licensed partnerInstall the roof curb and its flashing. The manufacturer does not supply the curb: the manual gives its reference dimensions (figure 7).
  2. AirGreenBuild the supply and return ducts inside the curb, fastened to the curb and the building.
  3. LiftingLift the unit by the rail lifting holes, with spreader bars, panels in place, cables attached 36 to 54 in (914 to 1,371 mm) above. Keep 1/4 in (6.4 mm) between the curb and the inner rail.
  4. AirGreenSwitch the unit to vertical connection: the bottom opening covers come off.
  5. AirGreenInstall the condensate drain with its trap.
  6. AirGreenMake the electrical connections.
  7. KinghomeDo the first start-up: per the manual, a Kinghome service centre technician or a person assigned by Kinghome, for the warranty to apply.

RTU installation manual, sections 3.2.1 to 3.2.5 (uploaded Aug. 28, 2026). The “AirGreen” tags follow our RBQ licences (15.8, 15.10, 16); see “Who does what”.

Minimum clearances

  • 24 induct connection side (610 mm)
  • 8 inone of the three other sides (203 mm)
  • 20 inone of the three other sides (508 mm)
  • 24 inone of the three other sides (610 mm)
  • 60 inabove the fan (1,524 mm)

Manual, figure 6; local code may ask for more.

The condensate drain

  • 3/4 in NPTdrain connection, on the low side of the pan; the rubber plugs come out first.
  • 5 to 10°of slope for the PVC pipe.
  • Traprequired, as the unit runs under negative pressure: A = B ≥ P/10 + 20 mm, P in pascals.
  • Neverinto a waste pipe that can send odours back, nor into a downspout: into a drain system meant for the unit, per the manual.

Manual, section 3.2.5.

03 · The ducts decide

Your ducts’ static pressure sets the fan speed.

The more the ducts hold the air back, the higher the static pressure. The manual gives, for each pressure, the allowed speeds and the airflow. Slide: the setting follows the pressure measured in your ducts.

Six settings on the wired controller

  • Level 4speeds 4, 5, 6 and 8
  • Level 5speeds 5, 6, 7 and 9 · factory setting
  • Level 6speeds 6, 7, 8 and 10
  • Level 7speeds 7, 8, 9 and 11
  • Level 8speeds 8, 9, 10 and 12
  • Level 9speeds 9, 10, 11 and 13

Each level (4 to 9) gives four speeds: low, middle, high and super high. With a 24 V thermostat, the speed is set with the SA1 DIP switches. Manual, section 3.2.6.

Two tables, we follow the manual

The brochures claim 0 to 1.0 in W.C. and the submittals (Aug. 20, 2026) give a wider table, up to 1.0 in. The manual (Aug. 28, 2026) stops at 0.8 in, the unit’s test range, and forbids the cells outside its table. This page follows the manual, the most recent and strictest document.

The manual also marks with a bold frame the cells where electric backup is allowed; that frame cannot be read in the PDF text: the technician checks it in the manual.

The shop

Both rooftop units, right below.

Open the product page: it carries the unit’s AHRI number, ENERGY STAR number and certified figures.

KINGHOME
Everything to know

Everything to know before installing a rooftop unit

Electric backup, cold, the trades involved, the warranty and LogisVert. Everything comes from Kinghome Canada documents, ENERGY STAR, Hydro-Québec and Environment Canada.

04 · Electric backup

Three backup kits: 6, 9 or 12 kW.

For the days when the heat pump is not enough, a heating element kit goes into the cabinet. It is electrical work: it falls within our licence (16).

KitPowerVoltageKit breaker 1Kit breaker 2
LYQ-08-F6 kW240 V45 A-
LYQ-08-G9 kW240 V30 A45 A
LYQ-08-H12 kW240 V45 A45 A

Manual, section 3.4.1; LYQ-08 kit specification (Jan. 3, 2025); breakers from the 5 ton submittal (Aug. 20, 2026). The English brochure prints 5, 10, 15 and 20 kW for the 3 ton; the French brochure, both submittals, the manual and the specification say 6, 9 and 12 kW: we follow those five documents.

No factory element

Electric backup is an accessory, and only these three kits are allowed by the manual, for the 3 and 5 tons.

Its own circuit

The 5 ton submittal asks for an independent power supply, at 240 V. Copper wire only.

Fan first

The fan must run when the element heats, and the element must stop before the fan.

1 ft from combustibles

Per the manual, supply ducts within 5 ft of the heating element stay at least 1 ft from other combustibles and walls.

05 · In the cold

At -15 °C, the certificate shows more than at -8.3 °C.

ENERGY STAR publishes two figures: the rated heat at -8.3 °C (17 °F), the one Hydro-Québec reads for LogisVert, and the heat at -15 °C (5 °F). For these two units, the second figure is higher than the first. These are the certificate’s own figures, and our product pages carry them as is.

What Kinghome says

“Full heating capacity at -9.4°C and maintains 80% capacity at -15°C” (English brochure). ENERGY STAR publishes nothing at -9.4 °C. At -15 °C, the 3 ton keeps 85% and the 5 ton 89% of their rated heat at 8.3 °C: that half of the promise holds.

And in Montreal

-9.4 °C is about the January daily mean at Montreal-Trudeau (-9.2 °C, 1991-2020 normals). The January average daily minimum is -13.5 °C. The heating range goes down to -30 °C.

ENERGY STAR, dataset w7cv-9xjt (pd_id 4657813 and 4670910, certified July 16 and 17, 2026), read Oct. 26, 2026; Environment and Climate Change Canada, 1991-2020 normals.

06 · Who does what

A rooftop unit involves several trades. Here are ours, and the others.

AirGreen holds RBQ licence 5645-9605-01, subcategories 15.8 (ventilation), 15.10 (refrigeration) and 16 (electrical). What falls outside these licences goes to a licensed partner.

AirGreen

AirGreen, licence 15.8

Ventilation: the supply and return ducts, their connection to the cabinet and the vertical or horizontal conversion.

AirGreen

AirGreen, licence 15.10

Refrigeration: the unit arrives assembled, piped and wired at the factory; any check or work on the R-32 circuit falls under this licence.

AirGreen

AirGreen, licence 16

Electrical: the unit’s supply, the backup kit circuit, the wired controller or the 24 V thermostat.

Partner

Licensed partner

The roofing: curb, flashing and membrane. It is not in our licences: a licensed roofer does it.

Partner

Engineer, if needed

The roof must carry the unit: 538 to 628 lb net per the brochure. The manual asks for a location strong enough for its weight and vibration.

Partner

Licensed plumber, if needed

If the condensate drain needs plumbing work in the building. Gas or oil: also handed to a licensed partner.

07 · Warranty

A commercial-use warranty, and three conditions in the manual.

The submittals give 5 years on parts and 7 years on the compressor for a registered unit, 5 and 5 otherwise (“Terms and conditions apply”). Labour is not covered by Kinghome.

The manual’s conditions

  1. The first start-up is done by a Kinghome service centre technician or a person assigned by Kinghome.
  2. Only Kinghome spare parts are used.
  3. The manual’s maintenance is done at the set frequency: filter, drain, heat exchanger, check before each season.

The manual adds that any breach voids the warranty.

RTU installation manual, section 7 “After-sales Service” and section 6 (maintenance); submittals of Aug. 20, 2026; 2025 Kinghome limited warranty (labour).

08 · LogisVert

On the LogisVert list, with one condition: a home.

Both units are on the LogisVert list “owner, existing home” of October 26, 2026, with the usual calculation: $120 per 1,000 BTU/h of rated heat at -8.3 °C.

Before counting on it

  • HomeThis list is for the owner of an existing home. For a commercial building, check with Hydro-Québec.
  • PackagedGuide v1.10 does not name packaged units; Hydro-Québec’s tool says the list prevails. Have Hydro-Québec confirm.

Hydro-Québec, LogisVert list “owner, existing home” of Oct. 26, 2026 (AHRI 218625041 and 218679546); participation guide v1.10 (Sept. 15, 2026).
