Zephyr in Montreal: the R-454B generation heats down to -30°C
Zephyr’s CB25 and UB32 wall units and the Series 6 central system have moved to R-454B and heat down to -30°C, according to the manufacturer. The CB22 wall unit, on R-32, goes down to -25°C. We help you choose, check the LogisVert amount in Hydro-Québec’s tool, and install throughout Greater Montreal.

Three questions, one Zephyr.
Ducts or not, one room or several, what matters most to you: the answer changes the series. The LogisVert amount shown is the one in Hydro-Québec’s tool for that system.
UB32 or CB25 · R-454B
- Both heat down to -30°C, according to Zephyr.
- UB32: the most efficient, from 9,000 to 15,000 BTU/h.
- CB25: up to 24,000 BTU/h for large rooms.
Compare the heat of the three series, size by size, in section 02.
CB22, CB25 or UB32: same size, three different winters.
The number in the name is the series’ maximum SEER2. Pick a size: we line up the heat each series delivers in the cold, from the manufacturer’s spec sheet, and Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert amount.

Drop the thermometer: which ones still heat?
Each Zephyr series has a minimum heating temperature published by the manufacturer. Slide down to -30°C to see which ones hold up, and how much heat a 12,000 BTU/h wall unit delivers.
Bars: from 10°C down to the minimum heating temperature published by Zephyr. Hatching: R-454B multi-zone, minimum not published by Zephyr.

Indoor unit
R-410A generation, on quoteAn R-454B heat pump pairs with an R-454B indoor unit with an expansion valve (TXV). Generations are never mixed.
The manufacturer requires the same capacity inside and out. Each certified pair has its own AHRI number.
The R-454B indoor unit comes with a factory-installed refrigerant detection sensor, designed for this A2L refrigerant.
Kits from 5 to 10 kW (2 tons), up to 15 kW (3 tons), up to 20 kW (4 and 5 tons), according to the Zephyr manual.
From R-410A to R-454B: what changes for you.
Between 2024 and 2026, Zephyr moved almost its entire lineup to R-32 and R-454B. In Canada, no rule yet requires the end of R-410A in residential heat pumps. Tap a date.

Canada: no residential limit
The federal regulation sets GWP limits for refrigeration and chillers (750 since 2025), not for residential air conditioners and heat pumps. Quebec regulates how refrigerants are handled, not which ones are chosen.
Source: SOR/2016-137, Schedule 1.1, current to Apr. 28, 2026; Q-2, r. 29.
In Canada, GWP limits target refrigeration and chillers, not residential heat pumps. Your R-410A system can stay in place.
R-32 and R-454B are classed A2L. Hence the leak sensor in the central indoor unit, and a trained installer.
An R-454B heat pump does not go on an R-410A indoor unit. If one half fails, we check the pairing before suggesting anything.
2,090 for R-410A, 470 for R-454B, according to the EPA. That is why manufacturers are switching.
