Quick facts
20 kW of electric heat and an ECM motor set to your needs
Choosing the right output first
A furnace that is too small struggles in very cold weather; one that is too big calls for a larger electrical circuit than necessary. Before recommending the Dettson Suprême Avantage SUP20-A240V12, we therefore do a heat-loss calculation of your house, on site. If the result comes to 20 kW, this model is an excellent candidate; if not, the same series comes in 18 and 23 kW.
What the SUP20-A240V12 brings
The furnace delivers 20 kW at 240 V and 15 kW at 208 V, or 51,256 BTU/h, with a 10 kW first stage. The elements switch on in sequence and can be replaced individually. Air is distributed by a 1/2 HP ECM motor whose airflow is set separately for heating and for cooling. Dettson publishes a 53 °F temperature rise at 240 V. The furnace is also approved for zero clearance, for mobile homes and for copper or aluminum wiring.
The front panel groups the continuous-fan switch, the low/high power switch, the heat-demand indicator light and the breakers. On warranty, Dettson covers parts for 5 years in residential use and the ECM motor for 5 years; labour is not covered by the manufacturer.
In your home, in practice
Whether you live in a large house in Laval, a cottage on the North Shore or a property in Longueuil, three questions guide the installation. Electrical first: Dettson calls for a 125 A maximum breaker at 240 V and publishes a 103.2 A ampacity. Location next: the furnace is multi-position, at 36 1/2 in high and 22 in deep. Finally, the future: an air-conditioning or heat-pump coil of up to 3 tons can be added on the supply or return side, and the ECM airflow is then set for summer. With a heat pump, Dettson requires that the elements and the heat pump never heat at the same time.
Your project with AirGreen, from start to finish
AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years. Our RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 covers ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work. Here is how the project goes:
- visit and free estimate, with a load calculation and a panel check;
- a clear, detailed written quote;
- installing the furnace, wiring it and connecting the ducts;
- setting the ECM motor, commissioning and a walkthrough of the controls.
Our teams travel to Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore and the South Shore.

Primary heat for a large ducted home
The SUP20-A240V12 delivers 20 kW at 240 V with elements that switch on in sequence. Its ECM motor lets the airflow be set for heating and, when the time comes, for air conditioning of up to 3 tons.
- Ducted homes whose heat-loss calculation comes to 20 kW
- Replacing an electric furnace with an ECM-motor model
- Adding central air conditioning or a heat pump of up to 3 tons later
- Upflow, downflow, horizontal or suspended installation
Specifications
From the manufacturer’s documentation. A value the manufacturer does not publish is not listed.
What to know before installing
- Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump: it does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
- Large dedicated circuit: 125 A maximum breaker at 240 V (90 A at 208 V) and 103.2 A ampacity at 240 V according to Dettson. Your electrical service capacity must be checked.
- With a heat pump, Dettson requires non-simultaneous operation of the elements and the heat pump: the thermostat must manage it.
- The air-conditioning or heat-pump coil is not included; it goes on the supply or return side.
- Standard 2-wire connection; a 3-wire connection (120–208/240 V) requires accessories.
- In downflow, the DFB-SUP base may be required depending on the type of floor.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know whether 20 kW is the right output?
Through a heat-loss calculation of the house, done on site during the free estimate. The Suprême Avantage series also comes in 18 and 23 kW: we recommend the size that matches the result.
What is set on the ECM motor?
The airflow, separately for heating and for cooling. We adjust it at commissioning based on your ducts and, if applicable, on the coil.
What electrical circuit is needed?
A 125 A maximum breaker at 240 V (90 A at 208 V). At 240 V, Dettson publishes 82.8 A for the elements, 2.3 A for the motor, a total current of 85.1 A and an ampacity of 103.2 A.
Can I add air conditioning or a heat pump?
Yes, with a coil of up to 3 tons on the supply or return side. With a heat pump, Dettson requires that the elements and the heat pump never heat at the same time; the thermostat manages this rule.
Does it qualify for a grant?
No. Sold alone, an electric furnace is not a heat pump and does not qualify for the LogisVert grant.
What is Dettson’s warranty?
Parts for 5 years in residential use and 1 year in commercial use; ECM motor for 5 years. Labour is not covered by the manufacturer.
